guild 2 looks as a beta version ...
https://www.moddb.com/mods/fajeths-megamodpack
Fix and improve alot of things, must have for Guild 2
As bad as the guild 3 is, the guild 2 is far worse.
Did the same thing as you Alec, and bought the guild 2 off the advice of people on these forums and I still regret it.
Even with the mod, it was still an issue where only a handful of businesses even functioned correctly, and the bugs bordered on gamebreaking. (unless you enjoy having bugs that require shut downs and reloads constantly)
With the guild 3 you can at least play, its just that you arnt likely to enjoy it much.
For anyone reading this, DO NOT LISTEN TO THEIR ADVICE! No sane person would suggest you to buy either game without mentioning they were both worthless. Especially not the guild 2 in its current state or in comparison.
The Guild 3 is distinct game, in many ways a lot diff. than The Guild 2, it's a matter of preference too but objectively, The Guild 2 is overall more whole and complete game and has much more soul/spirit to it than G3
Nearly unplayable versus a unit selection gripe? Yea, thats a no brainer.
Had the guild 2 actually finished into something you could play for longer than that without tripping over your own cursor, maybe it would have been the better game instead of in concept only.
"The Guild 2 is overall more whole and complete game and has much more soul/spirit to it than G3"
Factually false. Half the game doesnt work. The other half makes you feel like you are constantly fighting it instead of playing it.
And G3 just isnt fun is all.
I've played G2 in recent times and I am not sure how one can even begin to hold G2 on any kind of pedestal.
Just taking the unit control for example. Sure its missing in G3 entirely. But its not like in G2 it was working properly. You'd lose control of those units often and they became unselectable to the point even restarting and loading a game wouldn't help. And its like, so we are comparing broken features to non-existant features? Trash versus trash? Thats what it comes down to?
Hard Disagree. Guild 2 with the mega-mod-pack properly updated is the best experience by far. Each character class has 6+ DIFFERENT and UNIQUE ways to make money, and about 94% of everything works correctly (I challenge you to find the things that don't - you won't actually find the bugs superficially, as a matter of fact. Other than maybe the AI pirate ship bug.)
You have village politics, map-wide city politics, and *country-wide* multi-map politics in G2. And even if you aren't political, you can get involved in the multi-map stuff by acting as a soldier, a captain, etc. etc. and even using your own personal army to influence the outcome. If you advance politics and become the king yourself, YOU can start all of these events for all the other AI/Players YOURSELF. Nothing in the game is off-limits: anything you see anywhere, you can do yourself.
G2 multiplayer sucks, I'll give you that. But it works with the mod, and its 100000% better an experience with my friends and brothers (just create a fake LAN network, and multiplayer for G2 works no problem. Well, still does go out of sync roughly once every 2-3 hrs we play. But not too bad, honestly. We just make sure to save every 15-20 minutes, and we usually only lose around 5 minutes when it does happen.)
G2 w/ mega mod is by far the best experience, its less buggy than people say, and the only thing G3 has going for it is working public multiplayer, and maybe better graphics (but, in G2, you can go inside 99% of all buildings, so actually G3 looses here. Who cares about pretty fields, its cool to look inside your mage guild and see them brewing). The only other thing, G2 or G2 w/mega mod (don't play it without the mega mod, trust me) takes a bit more effort to learn, since it has about 800%+ more content than G3. So, if you have the patience to learn, G2 w/mega mod is the best. G3 is a shallow pond, G2 is a deep ocean.
