this is feedback we get quite often. We will think of a way to help defend against extortion. I don't think having a window pop up every time a business gets extorted is going to be the way to go, also since usually thugs don't politely ask if they may extort some money from your business before doing so.
But we'll try to come up with something that gives you an option to better protect your businesses.
I mean technically to do ask "nicely", threatening but with a facade of niceness. You have the option to decline, at the risk of being robbed or attacked in retaliation. That's what extortion is. So you should be able to decline, then the ai does it's best attempt to rob or kill you
2 years later have you come up with anything because my first playthrough and constantly having some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ come up and charge protection money with 100% no way for me to fight back has me ready to just write a negative review and move on for good. This combined with minstels losing rep for playing for nobody is actually stupidity and ruins the game very quickly.
1. Extorting protection money can now be made illegal
2. this means that in addition to henchmen standing guard, city guard will also react if they see someone extorting protection money
3. in the addons of your house you can increase the security of the building to make it harder to target your buildings
4. there are items like the latch that will also increase the security of your house
5. you can still hire henchmen to patrol the streets and protect your houses
6. if you are a city official you can also vote to increase guard in a neighborhood to deter crime or reduce them in another to make them a more attractive target
