First impressions..
I'm not pro at fighting games but I do play late ones, and this is my first Virtua Fighter experience. It feels like junky mixture of SoulCalibur and Tekken.

I saw lots of complaints about netcode and they're not so wrong, but I figured that, if you wait like 5 seconds when a match-found pops up, it shows real/close connection bars. (Also manage to freeze game when I try to cancel match search. It works if you quit to menu then go back ranked)

As casual I tried Arcade (lose to bonus stage cheat guy!!) & little training then hop into the ranked (coz nothing else left?). I wish there was a bit more content (for casuals) atleast a treasure hunt or something that makes your single player arcade runs worth playing.

As for the customization part, I find out you can mix outfit a and outfit b. and if you buy just the game like me, that's pretty much it. (as pre-purchase you can put 3 sega consoles on your back!)

If I was writing it as review, I had to give thumbs down because there's no mixed option, and it's def. not that good enough to suggest others. I'd say wait for sales if you are not huge fan. But then again, game launch is not that good, I'm afraid online may die when it gets 50% sale.. So I write my opinions here, hope it helps. :cleanseal:

this game is niche and has lived thru multiple generations and is only now going online internationally - that's how solid of a foundation it has with it's base. it will be the last fighting game to die. later, scrub.

I've been playing fighting games for the last 30 years, yet this is my first true foray into the Virtua Fighter series. I see how some can see this as antiquated when compared with more recent 3D fighters but somehow, it just clicks. This game is awesome, technical af, without the needless bells and whistle that often come with modern fighting games. Well worth its 16 bucks imo.
VF is pretty much the ultimate competitive fighter for the competitive gamer that loves fighting games.

That's because you only scratched the surface and do not understand what you are talking about. VF games are based on realistic fighting styles, and reward deep knowledge of the underlying systems - unlike the ego pampering of the mainstream games with flashy effects and Super Meters that allow even n00bs perform powerful moves without any skill.

Virtua Fighter is not flashy, but deeply rewarding, if you are willing to invest time in actually learning it.

what he sad. when. ?the word, 'Classic.' gets mentioned: and. why should anyone '?New' to this series assume, they know what is being discussed/how to "compare". there has been a progression of fighting games since MK I & SF II; VF was right there at the forefront and really never, never "Lost" to a competitor until, the home consoles started replacing: the Arcade machines. Before you can dismiss a true Classic, like VF5R perhaps consider the latest iterations of fighters might not be the only game worthy of OUR time; especially considering Game "Developers" have often implement gimicky/flashy options (seizure inducing, ?grafix) that really add nothing to the enjoyment or appreciation of fighters.

i mean... my 2 cents. the Grand Master vs. IP Man 1-5
More than just ridiculous, 50-button mashing combos you need a professional-gaming controller to compete (?with others.) C'mon dude...some fighting games, imho like VF5 are just a joy/& a pleasure to watch Others, Play.

Well, your complaints are valid, but you need to dig deeper to learn the game to truly appreciate the beauty of it.

This is basically the only fighting game that I truly understand the system, the rules, so I know exactly what I'm still lacking (thanks to VF4 evo tutorial). I'm still just at beginner level, so even just watching 2 experienced japanese players played this game as spectator was such a joy.

There isn't much value for this game if you only just play this casually to have fun. The fun come from trying to learn the mistakes and be a better fighters, and then stomp everyone online (I'm still far from this) 😅
