Thats not an issue son.
Peeps gonna play. Gonna play.
Who weren't even alive when the original VF5 game came out in 2006
Game is nearly 20 years old. It's not going to resonate with 'student's, just ageing gamers like me who remember playing the original game way back in the arcades in 93
That a terrible and selfish way to view the series. Virtua Fighter needs fresh blood as the playerbase continues to age out. The best option is to release the game during peak times for all players, not at some random period.
Tekken 8 was the 25th January, it didn't seem to do it much harm.
Yeah, but Tekken is one of the most well-known gaming IPs, so it can afford to release it during non-peak windows of the year. Virtua Fighter is fighting for recognition for a nearly 20-year old game. Releasing it in January 27 is dooming the game to a poor release.

What is this "peak window" you speak of?
But street fighter 6 was released in June (around Capcom Pro Tour), which was right around the time of summer vacation for most states. Initial release is best for marketing and advertising through word of mouth. By February, most people were already aware of the game and were planning on buying it later. So your point is moot.
So if Street Fighter 6 was released in June, people were going to buy it and play it in February the proceeding year anyway. When Tekken is played around this time, it's because its a popular release.
In all honesty, it sounds like you're just making up excuses.
Okay, try this one cupcake

January 2018, February 2020, January 2021, March 2021, February 2022.
I think Sega and Bandai Namco picked January for a reason.
I am not making excuses, you don't understand how game sales work.
The initial release of a game is meant to drum up hype from initial supporters of the game. If the game receives good reception initially, then over time the game will increase in sales. Also keep in mind that at release, SF6 was bare bones, so of course not too many people would adapt it in June, but fans liked the combat enough to support multiple character releases which eventually resulted in its long-term success. Also keep in mind that SF6 was released in June to coincide with Capcom Pro Tour, which is amazing for marketing the game. But as I stated before, the initial release of a game should be during a time when the developers are best able to market the title.
And you keep bringing up IPs that are FARR more relevant than Virtua Fighter. DBFZ was released on January 13, 2018 which is when most students are off for winter break....so thank you for proving my point. Virtua Fighter is on life support, so releasing it outside of a period where the most of potential consumers are going to be on break is foolish.
You haven't read my response, and you somehow claim it proves your point. Do tell me how for example DBFZ in February 2022 or January 2021 is also just January 13, 2018. I didn't just use one date, I used a plethora. Now if I cite any other IP when they conveniently play around the month of January~March, the new excuse is just relevant IP. Even when the game in question is played in 2022, 4 years after release into obscurity. Again, it is excuse making.
Here are more plethora that demonstrates around this time frame, January/February/March, there is a large active base, just like Tekken. Injustice 2 saw its highest in February 2024, KoFXV February 2023 was the highest for the year (February 2022 launch). MK11 February 2022 was the second highest month. MKX February 2022 was the highest for the year. Tekken 7 February 2024 was the highest peak for 2024. and the prior year 2023 saw January to April momentum for Tekken 7.
Maybe I should cite very obscure Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Battle for the Grid which saw February 2020 the highest too? Killer Instinct 2021 February was the second highest month. January 2018 saw January the second highest month.
I could go on, but I'm not going to, why waste the time? Maybe one more final demonstration, how about Samurai Shodown 2021 (that I happen to really really like) saw February 2023 as the highest of all time for that game.
Sega and Bandai Namco picked January for a reason, you know the ones who know how game sales work.
Good Day.
