Since VF4E Virtua fighter become my favorite 3D fighting game alongside Soulcalibur II and Tekken 3/7. I hated all the glowy super flashy effects in Tekken 8. However there is no way VF5 REVO will beat Tekken 8, not the same budget at all (Probably less than 25% of T8 budget), VF5 REVO is just an appetize before 6.

I love vf better. Regardless who beat who. Its preference

Tekken 8 is not my thing at all, and I say that as a lifelong fan of the series.

VF is a far smarter, sophisticated game series. Tekken is big, flashy and bombastic, and that's got a huge audience.

But VF is for serious fighting game fans.

But no, unlikely to beat it in terms of player numbers. Tekken appeals to casuals, and VF doesn't (thank god)

it wont beat it i think but alot of people will try it.

I hope it will but the recent ps4 version was dead online within a month while it was a free download for ps plus subscribers.

However, it was only available on ps4 when this one is a multiplatform and with some level of promotion.
Tekken 8 made so many fans angry and willing to change so there is hope. Time will tell.

I had no idea some disliked glamorous theme 😆 lol

But who really knows??? People are fickle anyway... Street fighter has more players than Tekken

Vf5 Revo seems like a tease to distract us from VF6 lolz 😂

this game is not beating out tekken player retention there will be a surge of players when it comes out but this will be a discord fighter at the end of the day and thats ok

Probably not, but then what people tend to forget a lot is "this game is more popular and has more players" does NOT mean it's of higher quality. If that were the case Fortnite and Roblox would be the absolute best games in existence and-- PUT DOWN THE LEAD PIPES, I'M JUST ILLUSTRATING A POINT, PLEASE NOT THE FAAAAACE! :aurip:

Bottom line, I don't see this game beating Tekken, at least not in the next few years. Not when that series has so much more momentum and marketing behind it whilst Virtua Fighter is gradually making a return after many years of lingering in relative inactivity. Again, neither of this is a judgement on the relative quality of either series, or which one is better than the other, it's just the situation we're in at this moment.

But speaking as a big Tekken fan for many years, who only got to play Virtua Fighter in the Yakuza/Like a Dragon arcades, I'm really excited to get into Virtua Fighter for real. And hopefully some healthy competition means Bamco will have to do more with the Tekken series than just fill it with some of the worst monetization schemes in existence. Now wouldn't that be something?

Not really the same player target in general.
C1REX Nov 22, 2024 @ 3:47am
I think we may get some indication of the game popularity based on the activity on this forum.
It’s a 18y old game but at 4K. I’m personally excited but I expect the game to be mostly played via Discord.

Tekken is doing well now. The game is selling, it has a stable, fairly large online presence, and there is cross-play. A lot of participants register at major Tekken tournaments, more only in SF6. This Sega needs to learn from Bandai

Exactly

Tekken 8 was a new game, this is just a re re re release of a 2006 game.
Nachtmahr Nov 22, 2024 @ 4:40am
VF was always niche, sadly, but it was the most fun and skill based game without any fluff or fancy ultras and supers. It's the winner of our hearts. I will be super rusty but I'm looking forward to re-learning it after like 8 years
RunningWild Nov 22, 2024 @ 4:45am
VF will always be the superior fighter to me simply because it stuck to it's roots and built upon it rather than adding unnecessary bloat to it like Tekken did.

Also Ring Outs always make for a fun time, unfortunately Soul Calibur always found ways to nerf those.
