Why did Call Of Duty become based in the future.

I only liked the more "realistic" type of maps and weapons like in cod 4, black ops 1, mw2 and mw3 this future ♥♥♥♥ is boring.

I think the future stuff is better...but only when it's done by Treyarch.



Treyarch started all this when they made BO2....and everyone else got the idea "Hey!Lets copy that Black Ops 2 Game's Futuristic Likeness because it became famous!Maybe we will finaly be loved!"-Infinity Ward

After BO3 Infinity Ward will do it again and Steal the "Distant Future" Setting from BO3 and make 4 new games out of it.

The World War II setting was really fleshed out and, as graphic processing power improved, the opportunity to speculate and create new, interesting environments arose. The "Modern Warfare" thing got stale very quickly, and Infinity Ward ruined it with every game they produced after the original installment. Expanding the series into the future gave it far more potential to have diverse settings, and shooting Eastern-Europeans with M4s gets super-boring after a while.

Future is cooler than the past and there is more innovation. If it was worldwar 2 we would be stuck using basic rifles and maybe some cool tanks but nothing really special. With the future devs can come with cooler weapons and stuff that haven't been invented

yeah black ops1 was great, black ops 2 was already a pain

even killing floor 2 has this futuristic style ;/

how are futuristic rifles that look all grey and blocky better than an ak-47 where you can smell the forest in its wood pattern

Because the series started in the WW2 period then everytime it got stale it advanced the era.

After CoD2 there was a plethora of WW2 shooters and it got realy boring. So CoD advanced to modern warfare.

Then the modern era got stale and CoD advanced to future warfare (with BO2 being a nice interim period game).

A few more future games and the series gonna reset to WW2.

Also future setting allows for diverse gameplay elements. The old CoD gameplay would be very boring nowadays.
