Multiple Network Adapters
How can I tell Call of Duty: Black Ops III which network adapter to use?

I'm running Windows 7. I have multiple physical network cards/adapters installed. I am not using this PC as a router, but it connects to multiple physical networks. Only one of these networks has proper Internet access. When all of my adapters are enabled, Call of Duty: Black Ops III insists on using the wrong network adapter.

Every time I try to run the game, the game will either complain that the servers are unavailable (thus disabling "Multiplayer" from the main menu), or it will connect for a short time and then drop out (sometimes before I've even joined a game, thus returning me to the "Press ENTER to start" screen). If I go into Options and then check the Network settings, the game reports the internal and external IPs for an adapter it should not be using.

The only way I can get the game to run properly (that is, connect to the online services) is to disable all network adapters (except the one I wish the game to use, that is, the adapter facing the proper Internet connection) prior to starting the game, and re-enable those adapters after playing. If I do this then the game runs seamlessly, and the Options screen reports the correct internal and external IPs. However, this is a tedious process, and causes interruptions to other important services running on my computer. (I have also tried overriding network metrics, with no success.)

I play quite a few online and network games on this PC (including FPS, RTS and MMORPG games). Call of Duty: Black Ops III is the only game having this issue.

My questions are:

How does Call of Duty: Black Ops III determine which network adapter it will use?

Why does Call of Duty: Black Ops III always try to bind itself to a network adapter that is not connecting to my internet-facing LAN?

Why does Call of Duty: Black Ops III seemingly ignore default routes and network metrics, and bind itself to a network adapter of its own choosing?

How can I force Call of Duty: Black Ops III to use the correct network adapter?

As someone who has used multiple network adapters before to use multiple internet connections for seperate programs so that I could use a hotspot for league, while using hotel internet for music streaming. There is an amazing tool that will allow you to choose what programs you want to use which network adapter. It even allows you to save them so you can quick bind. The program is called "ForceBindIPGUI". You basically enter the IP (the IP of the network adapter you want the program to use) and then select the path to the program, so in this case you navigate to your Steam/SteamApps/Common/Black Ops III and then select the .exe for the game. Then enter a name for the bind and save it to your list for future list, then simple hit the Force IP and it will open the program or game that you entered. I hope this helped you out since I know I spent like 8 hours trying to figure this out on my own.

Link to Download ForceBindIPGUI: http://old.r1ch.net/stuff/forcebindip/ (Download the Setup.exe)

Enjoy! :steamhappy:
