Anyone using G-sync or Freesync?
I ask as I'm about to order a new 144hz monitor without those features and was wondering if that's a mistake.

I want to know how much screen tearing will there be at over 100 fps without v-sync on a 144hz screen without g-sync or freesync.

Also, both sync technologies change the hz to match the gpu output to eliminate tearing but does that also mean that at 45 fps, the game feels like 80 fps?

In other words, without the fps counter on screen, can you tell that your frames have dropped?

I would like to know from users of either g-sync or freesync please.

Thanks.

using a philips 27'' 144hz g-sync monitor and having one feels like a blessing to be honest, no more screen tearing and no more v-sync.

not really, you will notice it when the game drops to 30-45fps and also after you get used to gaming at 100-144fps you will most likely start to see a difference between 100 and 60 also.

i can but i personally always try to be at 80-100+ because i am already spoiled with 80-100+ so going back to 60 feels like crap.

Thank you very much for taking the time to answer my questions. So the real benefit is the elimination of screen tearing as you still feel it when the frames are lower. No more screen tearing and no more v-sync.

Thank you.

ah also 1 small thingy with g-sync: if you drop below 30 fps your screen backlight will flicker a littlebit, sadly that is a part of g-sync so make sure you can always atleast stay above 30 if you buy one.

I have the benq 2430t on order from a boxing day sale. It doesn't have freesync but was £65 off from the price it was 2 weeks ago. I am now thinking of cancelling it and getting a 1440p 144hz with freesync but it's twice the price and that's why I made this thread.

I just wanted to know how much I would be missing out without freesync. If the 2430t is good, I will keep it.

Thanks again.

I've seen GSYNC in action and it is sweet. Just be sure if you are going with a freesync monitor you have AMD video cards, GSYNC only works with nvidia cards.

As far as whether to keep your monitor it depends on your budget and what you have. I have a 27" asus 1080p 144 hz monitor (without gsync). I'm going to upgrade to a 27" 1440p with gsync OR wait for the 35 inch widescreen with gsync from acer.

I would not spend the money upgrading to another 27 inch monitor with the same resolution just because it has gsync...if that makes any sense.

Makes perfect sense. You are going for a resolution upgrade with g-sync being the cherry on the cake. Right?

i have the asus rog swift 27" 1440p with 144 hz and GSYNC......i will admit that this is the best monitor i have ever played on and most expensive.....it is worth every penny. The most important thing though is making sure your GPU can hold up with it. I started with a GTX 980 so i didnt have any issues on high/ultra and averaged about 160-180 frames with vsync off and no tearing. i now added a second 980 just for personal preference and so my card doesnt work to hard. (never had issues with 1 card though)

Great. I am really considering cancelling the 2430t and getting the 2730z. Obviously it's the better monitor but it's double the price. Decisions........decisions.

I have ordered the benq 2730z so I have both monitors coming. I have to see freesync in action for myself specifically in black ops 3 as the mouse and stutters are a problem.

Thanks to all for the replies. I will update the thread when I have them in hand.:steamhappy:
