Having problems with netcode/lag? Test your router for buffer bloat!
I want to share an amazing fix that i have discovered for my problems with hit registration/netcode. Simply run the test located here:

http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest

You can even run it while playing, from the steam browser.

If you score less than "A" in the buffer bloat category, that means your router is suffering from buffer bloat, which means that your router's buffer is creating lag , because it's buffering more data than it can handle, and is making your game experience absolutely suck!

Fixing my buffer bloat from "F" to "A" has made a night and day difference for me! It feels like I am playing with significantly less lag and much better hit detection! Give it a try!

"Bufferbloat is the undesirable latency that comes from a router or other network equipment buffering too much data. It is a huge drag on Internet performance created, ironically, by previous attempts to make it work better. Eric Raymond wrote this one-sentence summary of the problem: "Bloated buffers lead to network-crippling latency spikes." You can read more about this problem at the main Bufferbloat site"

how to fix (if your router firmware supports it) :

in your router configuration page, under QoS, after you enable QoS , look for "queueing discipline" tab , which you can there select "FQ_Codel"

The Queue Discipline tab controls how packets are prioritized for sending and receipt.

My buffer bloat went from "F" to "A+" only after I enabled QoS with FQ_Codel queueing discipline and also changed my QoS uplink provisioning setting.

Disclaimer: Messing around in your router configuration page, is not for people who are unsure about what they are doing, you can really mess up your entire network. So beware.

This seems tricky to fix. I dont know much about routers. But I will do some homework on this tomorrow and see if this is something I can figure out how to fix.
THanks for the post and info. I will research it tomorrow.

Using a AVM Fritzbox with original Firmware

full QOS Prio on my PC

are you using FQ_Codel with QoS?

i Don´t know.. how can i see it?

here is a page explaining it for Open WRT firmware, maybe you can get some clues from it

AHAHHAHAHAHHAH but I think it was because my internet was used when I did the test. I run mostly a consistent ping unless someone downloads or watched HD videos and that's when my ping goes sky high. I'm planning on getting a Net Duma router to fix it partially

cool, I hope it works out, let us know , Net Duma is supposed to be pretty cool, if your bloat rating is "F" and you manage to get it to "A" like I did, it is like playing a different game now.

You have to be using a router that supports it (most dont) or need special firmware (made by communities) like DDwrt, or tomato.

as i understand.. bufferbload only affect you wen you download or upload...

the game uses about 8 kb down and 8kb up

so.. wen you just play.. not downloading or uploading in background... you will get no bufferbload
or am i wrong?

why don't you run the test while playing the game, from the in game steam browser, like I said, and see for yourself...
texasrattler 2016 年 4 月 20 日 下午 12:39
as long as data is being sent, we are all using something whether it being download or upload.

from my understanding BO series uses upload not download.
Kusel 2016 年 4 月 20 日 下午 1:16
testing bo3 with netlimiter.. only 8kb up and 8kb down

thats all Bo3 uses while playing

i run the test while playing from steam browser and my ping rise.. it rise in bo3.. it rise in teamspeak

but only as long as the speedtest goes with full up and download speed
without.. my ping stays stabil low

my PC is the only device connected to my router

FQ_codel is only a QOS setting that comes into handy if you play and download/upload at the same time, or if more people are using the internet (surfing, downloading, video ) at the same time

if you are the only one using the internet.. just dont download and play

Kusel : ping is not the same thing as buffer bloat, buffer bloat causes ping instability not simply max ping....... when you load the test in game, what is your buffer bloat final rating on the test?
Kusel 2016 年 4 月 20 日 下午 1:34
C A C

same as Final Rating in Google Chrome or Firefox

but i have great hitdetection ingame, no ping spikes, no Ping instability
every bullet that is well aimed gives me a accurat hitmarker
its spot on
and i don´t have the Feeling i would be half a sec behind or something like that

as long i dont Download or upload in background

well, I would have said the same thing, the game seemed to play fine, good hitmarkers. but I would sometimes be killed with no time to react, before I could even see what was happening, until i fixed mine, so try to fix it, if you can. Try to get Bufferbloat C to become bufferbloat A or A+, i'm not sure if your router has that option though.

Dslreports users/myself have reported inconsistent results when it comes to bufferbloat. Like sometimes it will report compleltly different values if I run it back to back. exp of results -,B,C,A. So who really knows how good/bad it is for me. Speed test is always dead on though. Dslreports does have tons of great tools for testing your connection though.

Also if your ISP is apart of dslreports you can talk to tech support directly. Like if you have internet problems you can post on its Direct Support thread. And they can see what/if anything is wrong on its end. Obviously some ISPs offer way better/faster online support then others

oh really, so their bufferbloat test is not that accurate? I didn't know that. It really helped my BLOPS 3 experience, personally, like a ton of lag has been removed. Night and day difference from going from "F" to "A+" with DD-WRT QoS. And now I consistently score "A" or "A+" on their test.

Search the dslreports forums for "bufferbloat". Not to say its not accurate, tons of different variables can come into play that might give it inconsistent readings: nic/modem/isp/BROWSER/etc.When you went from F to A did your download/upload speed change at all? You can view all your speedtests if you were logged into the site when u used its speedtest.
