[ANSWERED]What are the Zombies mod tools capable of?
I own Black Ops 3 on the Xbox One for playing Zombies. However, I also plan on buying Black Ops 3 on my PC both to play and make custom Zombies maps.

Is DLC content(weapons, assets, etc) available in the mod tools after the purchase of the DLC, or is DLC content not available at all, or is it freely used in the mod tools? Do I need to buy all the DLCs to get access to all available features and content in the mod tools? (I'm asking because, since I intend on buying the DLCs(that's $60 for DLC 1-4, $5 for The Giant, and $30 for ZC) for my Xbox copy, this could very quickly become a VERY expensive affair on top of the game itself.)

If you buy the game you get the mod tools for free, but you don't get the Season pass maps.
If you buy the base game from steam you will also get Zombies Chronicles.
In order to get the season pass maps you have to buy the Season pass, there has yet to be mods that try to copy the Season pass maps, and I doubt there will ever be such one.

The tools only contain assets from SoE and The Giant. Sadly Treyarch never gave us DLC assets. If you want to use the weapons though you can simply extract them from the game files provided you have DLC.

No, you only need a copy of the full game (i.e. not the starter pack). However, BO3 now comes with ZC for free, at least when purchased on Steam.

I think you might have misunderstood me, I was asking whether by buying the DLCs if the mod tools then had access to content added in DLC for use in custom maps or not.

Okay thanks, I wasn't sure. That's a bit odd though, isn't there that one custom Mob of The Dead remake that uses assets from Revelations? How was that accomplished?

(can't get this to format correctly) MP5: "No, you only need a copy of the full game (i.e. not the starter pack). However, BO3 now comes with ZC for free, at least when purchased on Steam."

Thanks for the info. Since I intend on sticking with Xbox for regular play, I'm glad to hear I don't need to buy all the DLCs again to have full access to what the modtools have to offer. (Although it would be nice if they added the content eventually). (Also, technically I wouldn't say ZC is "free" necessarily; it's doubtful Bo3 on it's own would still be $60 after all this time - more likely Bo3 on it's own is $30, which they bundled with the $30 ZC DLC.

Well, it is possible to rip models and weapons from older COD games/maps and put them into BO3. The problem with that is that it takes a really long time because you can only port one model/weapon at a time and it's more than a simply copy-and-paste job. As fas as I know there is no way to rip textures though.

So if you want to port models or weapons from say Der Eisendrache you need to have that map (or the season pass in this case since you can't purchase individual DLC packs on Steam).

And Treyarch lets people do that? In most cases that kind of thing is prevented since it's a form of piracy, or at least in cases where it's allowed, it requires players to already own the games that each model and weapon comes from(or in cases where models and such aren't part of the map's files, requires players to port them themselves). Surprising to see that seems to be allowed, though a welcomed openness, I suppose.

People have been doing that since the release of mod tools for WAW back in 2008. I think it's not piracy as long as you actually have the map you're taking assets from and it's just for personal use. You can't share assets online.

Not sure if they're necessarily cool with it but I've never heard anything negative about it so I suppose it's okay.

If you read the Mod Tools ToU (at least the WaW one says so), you'll see that it states that every map created belongs to ATVI, so I guess they are open to leaving people rip assets as long as they are in BO3 customs, since they own the maps anyways.
Also, in all the modding communities I know or that I've visited, there are strong policies against asset-ripping, and the forums are monitored the whole time by the moderators.

I've visited a few COD zombies modding communities and asset ripping is quite common as long as it's a) from other COD games and b) for personal use only. I think it's actually fairly difficult to find custom maps that don't include assets from other COD titles, be it a model, weapon, enemy etc.

Ye, true, but at least in UGX I saw that if you were trying to share things like wall chalks or ripped textures a while ago when BO/BO2 were new, you would get an insta-ban.

That's what I said earlier. You can't share assets online so if you want some then do it yourself and keep it to yourself.
