macOS players: GAME IS *NO LONGER* CROSS PLATFORM
Aspyr have decided to not update the macOS version for cross platform play. From Aspyr Support; "Call of Duty: Black Ops III is no longer cross-platform compatible with the Windows version.

We encourage players to join our #call-of-duty Discord Channel[discord.gg] to find other Mac players playing Black Ops III."

Anyone on MacOS would have a massive hardware disadvantage to anyone else, as the hardware in Macs aren't actually that good. As a result, anyone on MacOS would experience lower framerates, putting them at a performance disadvantage.

Your post is based on opinion. If you get a powerful Mac you're going to get good frame rates at higher resolutions, same for getting a powerful Windows or Linux PC. I run this game with VSync at 2560x1440@144Hz because I put a Radeon VII in my Mac and it runs smooth as butter. Anything else?

Macs in general don't have as much quality hardware as regular PCs do, and that's not really even an opinion. Macs are actually known for their poor gaming performance, as they are built for productivity, and nothing else. Sure, they can run games just fine in some cases, but the performance wouldn't be as good as a PC. Also, you're basing your post on your experience with the only currently upgradable Mac, the Mac Pro. That is a VERY expensive option for anyone, and judging performance off of only a $5000 machine simply isn't a good choice, as it excludes anyone that cannot afford that luxury. Overall, Macs don't have as much quality hardware as PCs do, with the exception of the Mac Pro, which is something that most people simply cannot afford.

The main reason why Mac users are at a disadvantage is because of the frame rate that the game runs on. Sure, a typical Mac can run the game at 60 FPS without a problem, but most PC users can easily go beyond 120 FPS. The problem here is that, while Macs can run the game smoothly at a consistent frame rate, they are at a disadvantage in reaction time, as the frame rate directly corresponds to reaction time in games. Mac users have less frames to react, and as such, they have less time to react. More information can be found in the video below.

Get over yourself. Like most PCs out there are used for much more than "Oh, I just want to check email and browse the web." No, most "PC users" DON'T have hardware capable of running Black Ops 3 at 120fps, period.

You'd need a higher end gaming PC to accomplish that and you get what you pay for. If you can afford a PC and are somewhat technically capable you can build a Hackintosh, you don't need to purchase a MacPro, either. Hell, you can make it triple boot Windows/macOS and whatever distro of Linux… but I've done all this, have you? You're going to post videos of obvious sht too? You're getting ridiculous. Would you prefer 60fps or 120fps?

120! No sht, Sherlock.

...are you ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid?

First of all, a vast majority of PCs are indeed gaming PCs. Most people that own PCs do indeed have them for gaming. Saying that they are only used for "checking emails and browsing the web" is just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid. Get over yourself, bud.

Second of all... what the ♥♥♥♥ are you talking about? Building a Hackintosh is literally ILLEGAL. Why would I judge Macs based off of an option that is literally illegal?

And since when did I say that 60 FPS was better than 120 FPS? I simply said that most Macs cannot handle the game at a higher framerate, which still holds true, with the exception of, you guessed it, the Mac Pro.

My point is "you get what you pay for." Like your technical prowess. I'm sorry, WTF are you adding to this thread besides uneducated opinion going nowhere besides WAY OFF the point of the original post? Also, please name the last person prosecuted for creating a Hackintosh. Hell, there's a LOT of YouTube videos about it.

Oh my god, you're ignorant. You haven't come up with a single valid argument to prove that Macs are equal in performance to PCs.

I'm ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ done here. You can just keep ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about how Macs are somehow good at gaming.

I didn't know I was trying to prove myself to you, kid. Have a good life.

From Aspyr Support;

Apologies for any frustration this has been causing. This is most likely due to the limited number of Mac players. Call of Duty: Black Ops III is no longer cross-platform compatible with the Windows version.

We encourage players to join our #call-of-duty Discord Channel to find other Mac players playing Black Ops III. Again I apologize for any frustration this has caused.

It was already an old game when they released it for macOS, most people play the newer versions on PC/console, then after the PC version was updated months ago they gave up on the macOS version.

im not even able to open the game it just pulls up a verifying integrity of game files bar that stops going only about 5-10 percent though any ideas?
*BURRRP!* Apr 11, 2020 @ 10:04pm
Sounds like you might have to attempt a reinstall. If anything is damaged/missing Steam should download/install it during this process but if it's completely stalling out reinstalling might be less time consuming.

I gave up and just uninstalled it.

I had to sign in to my Steam account so I could respond to this nonsense. Black Ops 3 isn't a very demanding game, it's down there with FIFA, so at this point it's possible that more computers that are still used today can run it at 30FPS+ than not, but most non-Apple computers in use today are not "gaming PCs" and would be unable to run anything like Cyberpunk 2077, Fallout 76, whatever the latest Assassin's Creed is, etc.

Hackintoshes are not "illegal". They violate Apple's ToU for macOS, but violating ToU is not against the law.

Now we have M1 Macs and they can play BO3 at 60FPS at least (only tests I have seen are with the internal display which is 60Hz only). Even the $800-900 MacBook Air can do it.

But no I wouldn't say most people with PCs use them for gaming (of course we mean like AAA games, not Stardew Valley or Farmville or anything else that any Mac going back to 2012 can also run, because then what are we arguing about, right?).
