How do Gobblegums Work?

So, I only want to play by myself and I have some mega gobblegum that would be great to use; but I don't want to waste it in a game where it's only me screing around. Do you lose mega gobblegum if you play a private lobby? I now it doesn't remove them when I use them on modded maps; but does that work for the official maps?

you lose them in the official maps but you can alt+f4 to exit out of the game and keep them

Well, go figure; guess it's offline for The Giant... But at least I can use them for the custom maps...
