How do you save please?

I got as far as going in the desert to find someones dog and then I hit Start and clicked quit. Next day come to play and no game saved. Asking me to start a new one.
So how do you save please?

Can't play this till I find out.

Is there a way to restart a level instead of loading a save? would be handy in situations where you have deadlocked yourself with a save and almost no health.
