How do I do Co-op

Is it like Dark souls where I have to find a item to summon?

There is basically a bonfire/campire in the game yes. The first one dose not allow you to use the online stuff because it is in the tutorial area I guess but once you go into the next area there is one inside and you can open up online play right away.
