Sort of found a solution: When joining on my friend, it let me boot into the game properly and then when I left and lunched into my save file, it worked.
I started a new character and went to the second bonfire in the dungeon and was able to open up for online co-op; it sent me back to the first bonfire but worked.
Two of us had our save locked out after opening it to online and after doing this we are back to playing the game as normal.
Both my buddy and I had the same issue but we found that joining someone else's game through steam fixed it
Answer: incredibly far, pole and line ignore all collision
Result: fishing pole turns to wet noodle permanently even after closing out and reloading
it still seems to work as intended it is just flaccid
I am very sorry lol
How do i fix this?
Also some kind of infinite mode would be really fun to play with friends to see how far we can go because just the base game is a little too easy and short to validate getting a group of people to play. Just like somewhere with progressively more difficult waves until you're overwhelmed would be lots of fun and would add replay value.

Better arrow stacking will probably be added soon. More replayable content (NG+ and Randomizer) is also planned.
