Crafting new weapons

I'm a Cleric and I want a new weapon. I understand the schematics and such but to be able to craft a weapon, do I need to first choose a profession? I know we only get 2 and they are locked once we pick it.

Yes you would need to become a weaponsmith. I would suggest avoiding picking a profession purely to gear yourself since drops are just as good/better and its not exactly easier to craft gear than it is to just get/buy a drop. In fact its harder.

At any rate the basic t1 schematics are buyable so if you just want a starter weapon you would want to pick weaponsmithing and then you could make a great mace or whatever you want. It would be replaced probably by the time you hit level 12 though.
Id suggest saving your silvers and just buying a dropped item or finding a weaponsmith who already got schematics to make a +1 stat weapon for you. Unless of course you like the idea of being a weaponsmith for more than your own gearing.
