Seems counter productive to game play. Why not obtain what you look like though play rather than taking an element of play from the game to sell in the store?
Seems like it is just one step closer to full PTW. First it is cosmetics, then it is consumables, then bags, bank space, special items, etc...
Like Lord Bulingdon said, this will turn me off completely. Been there, done that... don't want to play modern day "Hey sucker, come to the store to buy your game play".
Count me out on that one.
I can hold my nose for cosmetic only, but that doesn't mean it doesn't stink.
Yeah, if they put something like that, the only way I would consider it would be if I could in my settings turn off all "cash shop" cosmetics and everyone I see would look exactly like the gear they obtained through game play. Though I know those people who "bought" their look would throw tantrums over that.
Meh I've never minded them. I never drop money on them. There's definitely egregious examples of them, but the PoE model is ok with me and it helps keep the game going. Devs gotta eat. Especially small teams.
Sub models were the norm 10ish years ago when the dev's started working on this game. Then someone came up with the idea of Free to Play... and so on... until we have what we have today.
I think the devs realize they are in a competitive market and this will be a niche game. As such they will need to weigh sub or F2P and if F2P, what will be the monetization method in the future.
Oh, I don't want a cash shop either unless it is only cosmetic.
The buffs are cheats and if they are ok with selling cheats, then they are ok with the rest to which means eventually they will be full on FTP gimmick.
No wontons for you!
Gear is supposed to represent real, physical items within the game, not amorphous textures with stats attatched to them.
"Cosmetic only" cash shops have three problems for MMOs.
First, they degrade the integrity of the game world. Gear is no longer tied to any concept of it representing physical objects in the game. Your appearance is no longer tethered to the world itself.
Second, cash shops over subscriptions turn the game from a "democracy" to an "oligarchy". Under "box price with a subscription", all players pay the same and decisions by the devs circle around pleasing the entire player base. With the cash shop, a few whales give pay way more than everyone else, and the developers starts making decisions purely around pleasing them.
Third, and related to the second, is that for the promise of whale money, you have entered into a Faustian bargain. You have sold your soul for money, and eventually the Devil is going to come take his due. It is really not a matter of if, but when the cash shop will expand beyond cosmetics and how.
That's irrelevant, but also- It's labeled as an MMO on the store page.
This is also irrelevant to most people
you can do both sub and mtx they aren't mutually exclusive.
This is just you making assumtions about the devs.
