I suppose what they could do is offer a subscription with "perks" and depending on what those "Perks" are claim they're not pay to win.
What will happen after 1.0 gets released is yet to be decided but this doesn't mean it's misleading advertising as it's been clearly stated already that there are no decisions taken concerning a subscription model yet. It's quite likely going to happen in my opinion, as every indie team would need constant funds to sustain the development of an mmorpg. It's pretty logical I guess.
But in 2 years obviously anything can happen and change. You have to know this before making a purchase.
So, I guess no, you won't be entitled for a refund once you buy the game and play for longer than 2 hours or just keep the game in your account for longer than 2 weeks as per Steam policy of any other game.
Modern day things have changed with EA (good or bad), and so the model above is changed a bit.
Game is in alpha state, you buy it (because that is how EA is) and you play it while it is being developed for the next 2 years (that is what I have seen people throw around) to which the game will then "release" and you will begin paying a sub (if that is the payment model they end up choosing, it could change).
If you are familiar with EA, then you know the risks of EA and the fact that it is essentially "testing" the game as you play unfinished, with bugs, lacking features, etc....
The game though is an MMO and will follow that format eventually and settle on its chosen pay model. You will get to play for free up until that point.
Again, EA policy, if you don't know if you will like the released version of the game, that will be your choice, but I assume the "return policy" is the same for any game (ie 2 hours).
It doesn’t look favorable for VR, when they admit here that they don’t know the plan.
Game should’ve just launched in EA with a sub fee anyways. Buy the base game and get like 30 days free or something. I don’t know how their going to fund their operating expenses, while continuing to develop new content.
1) That the purchase is "only" for EA access.
2) And if that is the case, how long EA is expected to be.
As I said, the full screen caps line "SINGLE PURCHASE" doesn't leave a lot to interpretation, and if there is something else in the "fine print" that states "don't believe what we say, we can change our mind at any time", then it doesn't exactly exude trust in the publisher/developer, does it?
It is a single purchase for EA. They stated a release model maybe be a subscription based. Since it is not a subscription... do you see where this is going? The store page reflects CURRENT state of affairs. If you do not like that idea, refund it now, do not play and want for the game to be released and the decision to be finalized on how they plan to monetize the future of the game.
The tears are delicious though.
Lets say you paid 40$ and really liked the game and played a ton during EA. I would hope you would be on board with a sub fee if that was the direction it went. Or if not.. hey you had fun for your money and now its time to head on down the road to the next thing.
Either way the EA situation should and has no bearing on what happens after EA ends. They stated 1-2 years. I wouldn't hold my breath but that is what has been said.
