Just a heads up (for new Pantheon players)
"Early access" is not what you are thinking. You are not getting "Early access" to a game that is completed, or close to being completed. The term "Early access" is required by Steam. Please do not buy this and then leave a poor review on account of you expecting an "early access" build, because it hurts the Pantheon developers and community. This is an alpha build you will be playing.

**** STEAM does not allow games that are alpha/beta to be released, they require the term "early access". This is not a choice by the devs, but they have no choice, as it is a way to get more people involved in the beginning stages of development. This is required because MMOs of this style rely mainly on the community. I personally love this game, but please be aware of what you are purchasing.

Agree. I think VR made a mistake by calling this Early Access. It means something different on Steam than how VR is using it. It's going to be judged like other Early Access titles when in fact as you stated it's really a Alpha. One that you are paying to play and test. Nowhere near being complete.

Heard their will be wipes, and this EA period will last up to two years, with wipes?

Wipes confirmed by DEVs?

It means the devs ran out of money and need an influx of cash to finish the game which is currently in a pre-alpha state that took 10 years to create and we're supposed to take their word that they're going to actually finish it.

Don't get me wrong, I would love nothing more for this game to be a success but you'll have to forgive me for being a little skeptical.

Asides from the 1 guaranteed wipe by 1.0, they will wipe depending on if a game or economy breaking exploit is abused enough.

MMO's are never finished though. They release when their core content is ready, then stuff gets added continuously for the rest of the time.

Definitely read this before buying.
I believe all the info that is being discussed in this thread is answered here:

Look at how well it is doing for Star Citizen. Game has been in development for 10 years, still in "Alpha" stage. I actually think this is a good idea for VR to do. More should do it especially if their development cycle is long,

It isn't even showing up in the "Popular upcoming" section... so that's a bit of a concern.

Star Citizen is literally the worst example possible.
$700M in revenue and where is it?
After all these years and all that money, the game is still horrible... not just because of the endless bugs, but the gameplay is bad.

Well said. The developers have squandered all they have had. I don't trust them further than I can throw them.

Still in alpha? Has this game not been in development for like 10+ years now?

So this person is saying the Pantheon team lied to Steam in order to get their product listed. Hmm..

devs are incredibly clear about what this is, 24/7 testing with (hopefully) no wipes (though of course a wipe before official launch). there's nothing wrong with them needing money and all expectations of dev time/past dev time are meaningless- the core of the game is clearly done & an influx of cash can get you developers for any sort of release schedule

do you like the game or not
