Secondly, a lot of us probably do still play EQ TLP servers, I do.
After 25 years I don't think a fresh take on a classic era is too much to hope for.
Simple, it is not EQ. The moon is not Earth, well it's round, it rotates and circles the sun. Man people just stop already.
EQ is so much better, this game is nothing like it really. I still play EQ. Stop insulting EQ
EQ 2 better graphics, so many features but combat was just OTT
Better technology in software should allow faster content and features
Its the new kid on the block
I like Pantheon but end game is level 18 it seems, if I have to grind 4 levels on the same mob...somethings wrong
Graphics look like old EQ? I loved EQ and played for many years but if the graphics are like old EQ, hard pass
Then you should play that, what you like.
It looks and plays very little like old EQ. It just happens to carry along a lot of the concepts.
Honestly it looks and plays more like WoW Classic set it the world of Runescape which has it's own appeal.
And soloing was much harder than pantheon as I remember in Pantheon the goal is to have solo for every lvl till cap (not yet implemented)
There probably are tons of differances but its been a long time since I played and I dont remember
The thing is been there done that while Pantheon is a new game so even if there are many similarities I prefer having a fresh experience
8 spell gems, sitting for med ticks mid combat, melee was typically only auto attack and one or two abilities you hit on CD, faster movement was done via buffs and strafe-walking, there was no climbing, and no gathering. Crafting was manually adding components 1 by 1 and hitting combine with no recipes. There were no real solo mobs, you either cheesed mob pathing, kited things, charmed, or at the lower levels played twinked alts often with second box or an outside fighter level PL'ing you when it came to "solo'ing."
Straight up fighting things solo was something you generally only did to much lower level mobs if you class didn't have a way to abuse the above. Rogues just flat up couldn't solo as an example. The same "solo" methods vs group mobs mostly work in Pantheon as well, it's just you are missing a lot of the jank/cc power from EQ.
I never could enjoy EQ2 combat. I tried when it was new, and I tried years later. It just felt like an "MMO on Ice" to me. Way too much running around gathering huge hordes on soloing tanks and spamming AoE.
