Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen

Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen

In game map
I used to play the Everquest series from day 1 of it all. This game very much reminds me of Everquest somewhat Beta. Back then in alpha, mobs/npc's and some buildings used either yellow boxes/blocks and/or pink boxes/blocks. However, the game did have a way of mapping with a cartography skill and the compass was extremely visible and there was a N Button from day 1 in Alpha Stage.

Pantheon returns a lot of different emotions. I can get past old graphics I can past the Necessity to make macro's for every function in the game. (sigh, if the macro system works)

I just can't return the archaic feature of no map and somewhat /locs. I won't go into any detail of the nightmares in game about not being able to get groups when I couldn't find my way with /locs and a macro system that actually works for the player and not against it.

So until maps are implemented and a macro system that actually works for the player. I will have to pass. My nerves can't handle more frustration using /locs. I'm a LOT older now.

I am glad that I got to look around. Had to fall out of a tree in order to find my way down. (haha, did samething in EQ, Kelethin). Didn't return there till much much much later. Took me forever to partner up in the same city but only because he found me.

So you wan this to be a social game? ADD THE INGAME MAP SYSTEM!

Just to add a little note; until EQ added their in game map system (only because of an addon forced their hand) I had MANY MANY binders of printed maps with each zone in the game (each printed map marked up showing the monsters/housing/quests) on my bookshelf and loose on my desk were the zones playing in, where I would make my changes/additions. I even purchased a printed book from them.

I'm older and just don't have the incentive to do all of that again. Once in a lifetime experience is enough for me when it comes to mapping. 20+yrs I'd say it's long enough.

I've moved several times and downsized; all that work went into the trash.

Since I've stopped playing EQ & EQ2; I found that gaming is NOT a life but just a game to entertain part of life.
There will be a map, but I can't tell you when

I am happy to hear there will be a map. My experience with the EQ franchise mimics the op. My latest frustration was last night when I was just exploring this beautiful game and got jumped by something I couldn’t see. Without a map, I almost couldn’t find my way back to my body. With the stiff death penalty currently in game (dropping everything you have) and without a map to find your body again, I find it’s taking the fun of exploration out of the game. Discovering new places, things to gather and trinkets to collect is why I play. I will wait to log in again until there is a map.

Based on what has been talked about on multiple Livestreams with Joppa, there will be zone maps but none of them will have waypoints or GPS, it’ll just uncover fog of war as you explore the zone. I’m assuming there’ll be a basic overall world map too to sort of give players a good idea of what this world looks like.

We are in ALPHA remember this. A lot of systems aren’t even in the game yet, their questing and NPC interaction system isn’t fully in yet. You’ll have dialogue choices. Every player character will be flagged by their choices and interactions they make while exploring and interacting with monsters, loot, and NPC’s, certain choices you’ve made even the class you picked will open dialogue options and quests.

So long winded way of saying we haven’t even hit the tip of the iceberg of what it’s in store for this games future as they keep the dev going. But once maps are in it’ll be nice!

At least we don't have to spam our Sense Heading button until we can reliably determine which way north is without using "tricks" (like dropping a dagger on the ground or watching which way the clouds move). I miss EQAtlas and Brasse's maps and hope the, eventual, in-game map resembles something like that -- without the "You are here!" indicator (GPS).

I think brasse w/e maps are still updated to this day.

Fully support implementing a map system - even a fog-of-war style that rewards exploration would be perfect. Constantly getting lost in familiar zones kills the vibe. Devs should prioritize this ASAP. In interviews they mentioned wanting this retro MMO to welcome all players. As a 21-year-old who loves the game, most of my friends would ragequit over these anti-QoL mechanics. Modern MMOs struggle to retain young players already - balancing old-school charm (which I adore) with basic conveniences could make this a gateway drug for new gen gamers. Been actively recruiting my squad despite the language barrier being our main hurdle.

If the "you are here feature" went in then it has be only while standing still. No running with the map open nonsense. Being able to look at and after some moment of time get a determination of where you're standing would be delightful, but a full on GPS lock in is definitely extreme. And this is coming from a person that's be dealing with topographical disorientation for a good portion of their life.

A map with such features is only mandatory IF there is an expectation of players not getting lost. I've long since stopped having any expectation of myself not getting lost so any expectation falls on the devs and the rest of the player base.

Not trying to be combative, but why are you constantly getting lost? This game is far easier to navigate and remember where you are than games like EQ where the zones were very generic and repetitive making it difficult to remember locations.

In this game, while it may at first glance look "the same", it isn't at all and each area in its hills, cliffs, and layouts are pretty clear to identify where you are with areas that may be more confusing being an issue of just a bit of paying attention to your surroundings a bit to figure them out.

This would be part of the game play.

the vibe must be pretty cool for 5500 people to be logged in right now. you're in the minority bruh. there's an out of game map if you really need your hand held

We already have /loc GPS in-game.
And? What part of me saying Joppa is adding maps and giving info he said, is me saying the game doesn’t have /loc?

It’s entirely irrelevant to what I’m talking about lol.

I hear ya, but remember that some kids are just starting that journey. There' snothing different about drawing your own maps today than back then; there were tons of games with and without maps back then as well. It was always a design choice.

Ah this game has the same system as EQ did when it was released back in 1999. /loc and there is a compass. I mean if you need a map that bad there are website that have maps some even have the cords on them
