Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen

Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen

Not a social MMO..
Friend and I leveled to 10, took us like 20 hours over 3 days. Combat was slow as hell and trying to form groups with people was an exercise in futility... Games have evolved in the last 20 years and as former EQ players, we thought this was what we wanted and would be a return to form, a real fantasy world to get immersed in and meet new friends in. Instead, this has been the least social MMORPG I've ever played and we've not had a very good time with the lengths theyve gone to make the world feel archaic and un-fun. There isnt even a map in the game to find your way around.

Combat was slow? Seriously? Any faster and it will be exactly like mainstream "spam a lot" MMOs.

Groups, well.. it depends... I had groups from day 1, joined a guild and grouped quite a bit. It was hit and miss in PUG groups, but then... well... they are PUGs, game is new, people don't know the classes, mechanics, etc... very well... that will come in time and the game is going to change a lot.

Exp issues has drove most people to solo because it has the most gains. Also, a lot of people are choosing solo classes to test things out and just "doing their own thing" because the characters eventually will be wiped. Pre-release isn't a good measure of how things will be on release, what classes people will play, etc...

Over all, people have been very cool and while I see a lot of "complaining" on the steam forums, I don't see this on the servers very much and I have played on 3 different servers.

Lastly...

Map is coming, but it won't be GPS, just a hand drawn map that will uncover with exploration.

You do know that the social aspect starts with you, right? It isn't a mechanic they put in, it's an activity you choose to partake in.

Giant sigh.
I mostly played alone. But whenever I was looking for a group. I've had the experience of finding one quickly. It also depends on how you search. I have also often seen how people search for groups in the chat, for example without information about what kind of players they are looking for (in terms of class/role) or what they are looking for (what content they want to do), some don't even say what class or level they are . If you then have to ask again yourself, you might be more inclined to answer those who provide precise information. And of course a certain amount of politeness also plays a role. So you should also start asking yourself when others manage to find a group but you don't. Is the game to blame then? Or could the problem be something else?

I will say that Wild's End has seemed dead on every server. Three days it took me to get one group going on Blackmoon (high pop shard). Conversely as soon as I was ported to TH, I had a group within two minutes.

1-10 shouldn't take you twenty hours especially if you're duoing or soloing.

Ouch, you're right. I completely forgot about that. Nobody plays in Wilds End.

However, if you started in Wilds End with your friends. Then please ignore the text. You really can't find a group there
Shalazam Pantheon has a map and you can enter your coordinates in it to see where you are.

The fact that there is no map is not an issue to me. The community has already solved the map issue if you absolutely need a map.

Games have evolved because gamers have evolved. EQ was populated by people in their mid 20's and up, who had usually played pen and paper role-playing games around a table with RL friends or strangers who became friends. I made friends back then in the 80's that I still count as friends today. When we transitioned to online games like EQ, the socialisation aspect was front and foremost - it was what we were all used to.

These days, players aren't like that. There's a reluctance to group or even socialise with Randoms, and more of a tendency to want to solo a game. You can create a game based on grouping, but you can't make them group.
The problem with the shazlam map is it shows too much, but the game is in alpha and they need to accpet they need some kind of map and seleling while off line
I've had no issues grouping in Wild's End. You literally just ask "Hey, can we group up" to anyone you see.
Actually the community seems very social.

People giving away gear, doing free summons, free rezzes. I've had other groups inside a dungeon rez or drag my group several times.

Most people i've grouped with are friendly and chatty.

As far as getting a group, the best option is usually just to form one yourself. You'd be surprised how many people will just sit in LFG and never try to make one. I can't tell you how many times i've opened LFG and seen 2-3 of every class needed to start a group.

Usually i'll lfg and ooc for a bit, if i get no bites after a while, i make my own.

You can either sit in LFG for hours and hope you get lucky, or send a few tells and get to hunting.

It is also a "you get out of it what you put into it"

I remember even in EQ some people would complain about never being able to find a group.

Thing is, I had problems "finding a group" when all I would do is LFG waiting for someone to pick me. I stopped doing that and began "forming" my groups. If I saw a single person LFG, I would nab them and go try to do something duo, and as we were doing that, I would grab anyone else I could along the way.

Very quickly it turned into a full group and eventually I was getting tells constantly every time I logged on with "So what are we doing tonight?"
