Item transfer with two accounts

Would it work to buy a second account to transfer items between my characters? I'm mainly wondering if the game allows multi-instance on the same PC.

You can multi-box and use that to trade items between characters. You'll have to run two instances of steam and two steam accounts to do it through Steam. The website isn't currently selling any copies for the stand alone launcher (likely part of the deal with Valve to publish on Steam), but they will resume sales on the website soon (no ETA). It's much easier to do with the stand alone launcher, but you can make it work with Steam.
