Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen

Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen

I don't get the pessimism
I've seen people on here acting like this was a joke of a release and the game is dead on arrival.

That doesn't really mesh with the fact that the game is actually growing, at least on Steam. Concurrent players hit a new all-time peak just yesterday. Yes, it's still very small compared to AAA titles, but by indie MMO standards in early access, it might actually be at the head of the pack, since it actually has multiple times the number of players to other EA indie MMOs, like Brighter Shores and Pax Dei.

I believe the pessimism stems less from the game itself and more the company behind it. They've been developing this game for 13 years, have had at multiple restarts (this being the latest iteration) where they basically started from scratch due to poor planning / vision, and burned through millions of dollars doing it.

Yeah, there's a lot of doom and gloom and folks that just enjoy picking fights, but there's some hefty legitimacy to folks being less than enthusiastic about this project.

I get it. as jdp just said, this game has been in development forever. and the graphics are not up to the standard of new games. heck, the graphics look like they come from 10 years ago. But I am having a blast playing this. it has a solid foundation and I think will turn out just fine. at least with corpse runs you get to keep the items equiped. in eq you lost everything and that was the largest pain. I like the danger in this game. no other games make me feel fear when i am running around solo like this game. It makes you more cautious and want to group up more.i love it.

Aside from the questionable history of this game, you have a group of emotionally invested gamers that are incredibly easy to troll here. It's the perfect storm for ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Haha. Thank you for confirming what we've been saying about all of you: that you people are just here to troll and bring everyone down.
I'm pessimistic because what they are asking players to pay $40 for seems to be quite pitiful. I get that the game is far from done, but we all know that they've been working on this for a very long time and that their track record of development on this has been a disaster. I'm not even sure in years from now that the 1.0 release will be any good as this game seems to have some serious issue like lacking in character and innovation. I don't think it needs to be super innovative, but everything so far just seems like stuff that's already been done over and over in other video games.

You only get to make a first impression once and I feel they really should've polished up more and at least got some of the more essential basic QoL features implemented before pushing this out to everyone and charging people for it.

Play the game, like it? Cool. Don't like it? Cool, pass on with your moral objections and quarrels of the past plaguing ya mind in the present. Solid mechanically, needs work sure, but it's predictable that chumps out here filling their skull with the idea that no ray tracing is irrefutable in the modern age, gimme a break. Just trying to get items, have fun with homies, raid some ♥♥♥♥. Save the Fortnite whining fo yo momma.

I don't know if the first impression was all as bad as you think if the game is actively growing.

That's not typical for most games on Steam. The vast majority of titles on Steam hit their highest concurrent users at release and then plummet to a smaller, more regular number that slowly dwindles until some new content patch is released.

This game's peak concurrent userbase was hit yesterday and it looks like it might be beaten again today. Now, this is in small increments and the userbase is still quite small, but a game actually growing after release is pretty rare on this platform.

Posting again to confirm that a newest highest concurrent player count HAS been achieved today. It cracked 5000

But this is just something that will add even more to a success story WHEN they pull through. All that money can be made back. They are truly trying to do this right and maybe even 1-up EverQuest.. This game is an ode to the old-school style that was and still is so highly respected.

I donno I just bought it and it looks really cool to me!

It's pretty odd, isn't it. One of the more stable releases in the last year or three, and with a good amount of content to boot.

It's just the hate train. It's both profitable and apparently somehow attractive to hate on things. Whether you have reasons behind that is irrelevant, you can find some. Or your favorite hate tuber will give you some.

I've been swept up in it before, although I like to think I thought through my objections a little more carefully.

Just finished my first hour or two. Not a single crash, don't think I ever even lost a single frame, although it does occasionally hitch a little bit. Literally zero bugs other than all the ones I killed. Couldn't help myself, came back for a second helping. And that's just the Newbie zone.

Emotionally AND financially.
Another thing, from the perspective of a new elf at least, the music in this game sucks ass. Even Everquest's music from over 20 years ago ♥♥♥♥♥ all over the music in this game. Hopefully the music they currently have gets replaced at some point before release, but I wouldn't be surprised if they just keep it.
I agree, today was the highest day ever in the game's history! They now have 5k players! This game is going to so fund all future relases, DLC, and a stable back-end for non-frustrating gameplay. Ya'll should buy it now because it all makes sense for a decade old game!
