Xbox controller tips
Just wanted to add some tips that I feel help me. I still haven't come first in a stage but I race with no assists, no hud and locked headcam with 100% head shake, Im still an average joe. Anyway on with my tips, any other gamepad users feel free to add your tips!

Sensitivity: 100
lineriaritytyty: 60

adjust your deadzones

Handbrake: A
Gear up: B
Gear Down: X
Clutch: LB
Wipers: RB

if you're heavy on the brakes, just lowering them down from 100% try going like 85 90

Set up the controls to match a racing game you're familiar with. I've a ton of hours drifting on Forza Motorsport so i've taken my drift techniques on the gamepad and have applyed them to dirt rally.

When understeering, instead of braking or crashing, hold the clutch in and build up your revs and with the wheels free'd the car should skim off some speed enough to get you through the turn. Drop clutch and fly outta there.

FWD, left food brake a lot through turns while the throttle is still mashed full titty the weight shift to the front wheels should give you the grip up front to get through the turn.

Flicking can sorta be done by locking up your brakes sort of in the opposite direction, because you cant always get a good stick flick in, clutch in, build revs up, time the release right and ride on through.

try not to always floor it

basically just go play forza for bunch of hours and learn to drift and race and merge those techniques into rally and learn physics too.

will delete if not helpful

i actually did find this helpful, i normaly play with assist on on pretty much all racing games, but in dirt ive been having trouble getting through the hairpins quick and turning off all assists helps alot, i just have to get use to the way the cars handle without and try taking more risks than i normaly do and i should hopefully get first place and start winning

When taking turns, I find I always have the stick locked and on hair pins I get a lot of understeer so I will just hold the clutch in with the throttle mashed and just keep clutching and releasing depending on how grip feels at the time. Sometimes a quick sudden tap of the A button while clutching can help get the nose around the corner or saveyou on a big understeering turn. Give that a go!

My Settings are a standard setup apart from whats below:

Sensitivity: 80
Linearity: 20

The above helps me no end for Quick turning , Flicks and general fast corrections ;)
Left Finger Breaking with throttle mashed down ;)

The settings I use are standard besides sensitivity at 100 and linearity at 0.

I find Xbox One controller is better for brake and acceleration controls, although I've found it almost all comes down to getting used to the car you're using and the different surface types.

Also if you're using no assist like I, but you're using automatic gearing, make sure to let off the gas going round corners when it shifts down a gear or your back end will kick out.

I use first person camera cause I feel it helps with knowing where your car is on the track.

Final thing is to keep going, even if you're behind on one of the split times, cause you might nail the next parts of the stage.
