Speedometer is clearly broken, seems linked to engine rpm.

Looking at the screenshot I'm supposedly doing 46mph while completely stationary against a tree. Speed goes up in line with the rpm on the engine. Seems totally wrong to me.

noticed that too and also if you watch replays the speed is not dependent on wheel spin modeling either ,weird

It's not a bug, it's a feature :) That is realistic. In real cars, the speed is measured with the rpm of the wheels and not with GPS like in almost every videogame. In Dirt Rally, this feature is implemented now. If you have wheelspin for example, the speed which is measured by the wheel's rpm is higher than the speed of a car actually is.

of course of course your speedometer is mechanically connected to transmission ,and is spun via cable and gears .............................look at some replays though and you can tell that when youre off the gas and or brake the speedo does do some weird things in this game .If it is supposed to be indicative of wheel spin modeling, then its totally wrong. And yes ive been driving for 30 years and have some gravel experience

"Actually officer I turned my traction control off so I think you will find my wheels were spinning at a speed of 100mph while the car was only moving at 30mph so you can put your handcuffs away". - Somehow I don't think this excuse would work.

Additionally, if I floor it in my car in first gear I'll be going no faster than around 15mph by the time I red line. If I then skip 2nd and jump straight into 3rd and increase speed to 20mph the rpm will drop from 7000 to around 2000.

yeah lmao they have a bit to still fix on physics :)

I didn't even know there was a speedometer....

The rpm of your engine will drop, but not of your wheels.

BTW what happens if you do a full breake on snow or ice? Does your speedometer shows 0 km/h when the wheels stand still?

No because my ABS kicks in and the wheels don't lock.

You're missing the point of what I'm saying though. The speedometer should not be linked to wheel spin or engine revs, it should be based entirely on distance/time of the physical body of the car.

But it's not. On my real ex-works Escort BDA the speedo was driven by a cable off the back of the ZF gearbox.

So, spin the wheels and speedo indicates you're going faster than you are.

You're missing the point of what reality is and how the game actually reflects reality. I was over joyed when I noticed that a simulation FINALLY properly linked the speedometer to the actual wheel speed.

You're missing the point.

This was added with a recent patch and was also mentioned in the notes back then and like others said this is a feature and personally I'm glad we have finally a game where they implemented it properly.

I'm driving without HUD and didn't even noticed :'D
But it's good to know it's implemented sp near to reality.

No, mine does not because I turned assists off.
