Advice on taking corners - brakes?
I am having difficulty taking hairpin and acute corners.

Should I be using handbrake? Or just slow down?
Any general tips?

I am driving the 60s mini car :-)

I like to give a little flick in the opposite direction, turn in, hold the hand brake, usually in second gear, try and keep the revs up keeping turned in and floored. Disengage and rengage the handbrake to counter the understeer. If the rpms drop, I will either hold it in second and just go or if its into an uphill downshift on the exit to first if needed as well.

driving with wheel or controller or keyboard? each has seperate amounts degree of control that you can choose to utilise. i have my co driver on late, so whenever he calls out acutes and hairpins, its 2 seconds away. i step off acceleration and get ready to brake, and at the same time, as im lifting off accel pedals i slowly brake in and turn into the corner. right before the apex i floor it to bring the car around and start accelerating.

dont drift around acute corners more than 60 degrees (shorts 3s to long, half 1s), you lose time.

in a FWD car when you handbrake you will dump off all of your speed and wont be able to drift anyways.

Never brake in a corner. Brake before or not at all. Doing a Scandinavian flick helps maintaining speed through corners. Using handbrake on a FWD car to help turning is not a problem IRL and its not a problem in-game. Holding the handbrake is for parking - tap it!

You need to have some speed into the corner also. I normally overspeed a bit, use the handbrake and power to come out of it.

Thanks a buch, I think I may be just driving way too fast and braking way too much.

The steering is very sensitive (using controller, but keyboard too) --- is the steering wheel better?
For example, sometimes I want to make a tiny adjustment, but when pushing on controller stick, the car is thrown way too much! Conversely, when I do need to turn a lot, it feels like the car is not turning far enough (this is less of a problem though).

Tapping the accelerator on loose roads will help you keep traction on corners, especially coming out while turning. Breaking is best applied in a straight line, before you reach the corner.

Driving the Lancia Fulvia I found using the handbrake helped a lot, in the RWD cars though it's just a good way to get your car to spin out, they have enough turn in anyway to not need it.

A steering wheel is loads better at fine adjustment and full lock turning because it has a further physical travel range it also has more range in-game. It just make it a lot better to control the vehicle precisely the pedals also help to make precise throttle control.

The downside is they are expensive but i was lucky enough to pick one up on a 2nd hand site for a bargain if you are able to do the same i would suggest it you will find it a much more enjoyable experience .
