What do you think about Opel Manta 400?
I absolutely love this car now. By far the best torque distribution and gearbox in game (better than in Lancia 037), superb suspension that holds the car on the road like an expensive Gran Tourismo coupe, drivetrain with great handling both for gravel and tarmac.

The car is rather cheap, but it is a great value for the money. Recommend taking it in 7/7 livery - Yellow 05. Very stylish.

In Group B RWD it outperforms Lancia 037.

Great car, isn't it? Classic, stylish, good handling and fast. Something like BMW or MB coupes.

I love it for childhood memories (about every other car in my early childhood was a ridiculously customised Manta), but dear, it's a beast to drive. After driving a few rounds with it, every other car seems so nice suddenly, including Stratos and Metro.

Works well on tarmac though.

edit: well I earned the Group B RWD championship achievement with it, so it can't be that bad.

Actually it is much easirer to drive than Lancia 037, I mean power distribution, gearing and traction. If you set the gearbox properly (gears should not be very short and very long, final ratio medium), lower the suspension (default values are way too high), adjust damping - then the car shows the full glory with advanced setup.

It is faster on gravel (Powys, Argolis) than Lancia 037, and you can drive it fast on snowy Monaco as well as steering is very predictable.

I am the fan of those old cars, they have more style, they look cool, they are lighter and have same power as those WRCs.

Haven't tried the Seat and Peugeot Kitkars through but I am a bit sceptical of them being FWD.

It's always interesting to see how people prefer different cars. On gravel, for me the 037 is the God of everything, the Manta a perilous beast. Some love the Quattro and drive fast with it, I loathe it and even prefer the Metro. I'm tinkering with the settings to make the 037 controllable on tarmac, but in any way, it's the ultimate car for me.

The big drawback of the Lancia 037 is the torque and engine power output which is not enough smooth at lower revs. You get immediate power and rear wheel spins at barely half the throttle (which is partially compensated by very wide rear wheels).

Manta is like rallying Mercedes, smooth and comfortable, but you can push it to the limit if necessary.

BTW, somebody was asking about a speedometer in cockpit here. Manta has it on the center console and it works though graded to 200 km/h only. I've checked the speeds, typical speeds on Baumholder straights are 140 - 150 km/h.
its better on gravel

Really surprised to hear this, I think it's dreadful on gravel. I'm glad everony has a different approach and his own preferences.
I'm usung Impact FFB v3. with DFP wheel. 100% on all ffb except collision about 70% Throttle Sat 115% Took the Manta onto Sweetlamb Long last night default setup except diff all the way short and then spread the gears out. Car is awesome totally lit up through that stage

Try to run Lancia 037 on Argolis stages and you will see what is dreadful on gravel, especially with low gear ratios and reasonably low final ratio. It will spin wheels like a hell and skid as well.
All the luck is that 037 rear wheels are very wide so you can catch moments before they go off the road.

Manta has much more controllable power distribution from gear to gear and the application of torque. I have done some research how Manta 400 was constructed - it appears to be a collaboration work of Irmscher (Opel's domestic factory tuner) and Cosworth engine plant.

Well, I love it and so does my dad, he had some Manta GSi's before and now we are building a Manta 400 with the rollcage and bucketseats etc. So yeah I do love it ;DDD

if you want the best quality fiberglass bodykit and 400 bonnet around, my old company (until I took early retirement) that I started in 1999 Rallytech have the best stuff around. google Rallytech for their website

While I agree that the Manta is easier to handle, the 037 Evo 2 is an absolute monster on the straights of any kind. As long you manage to keep it on the road, you will utterly decimate the AI on every stage with high-speed sections. You just need to be very cautious in the slower and narrower parts of the track with it.

I just took it for a spin in a custom event in Greece, and by god, what a fun car to ride it is. After first run crashing in half of the corners it was just pure pleasure to slide on the gravel from left side to side, as most RWD cars are ;)
