Should I release the gas pedal when shifting?
In order to avoid damage to the car...? Im using Manual + H-Shifter + Auto-clutch

Yes. You will damage the clutch in the long run... Use the heel toe technique. Press the clutch with your toe then heel up on the gas to shift.

I've seen no evidence that it will "damage" the clutch in game?

As driving a long stage in first gear on the limiter didn't cause noticeable engine wear, I doubt that kind of clutch damage would be modeled in game.

I'm asking this because today after the 2nd stage (no repairing before), I did the the first shift of the stage with gas pedal pressed (i have auto-clutch BTW) and I noticed that the engine logo appeared just after shifting.... that's why im asking this...

Was you car damage free after the first stage, in particular the radiator? The engine warning comes up for different kind of failures.
Mangostain Aug 24, 2015 @ 4:49pm
on the first stage I suffered a lot of damage.... then in the 2nd stage I did not repaired.... but I think the radiator warning was/were ON ........ I started the race on the first gear, everything ok, then a shift it to 2nd gear and the engine logo appeared..... Why appeared that warning? The only wrong thing I was doing was pressing gas pedal when shifting... so that's mean if I released the gas pedal when shifiting, maybe the enigine warning will not show up.....(sorry for my english)

When the radiator is badly damaged, soon after the engine warning comes up as well. That's normal as without proper cooling the engine overheats and gets damaged. The case you described seems more like a coincidence with this.

If you'd like to find out if clutch damage is modeled in the game or not, make sure to not damage other parts on the car and just abuse the clutch as much as you can.

The clutch damage is not in game yet. I use the H Shifter with out lifting and have had no problems yet.

I don't think it is implemented in the game. I used the auto-clutch from the beginning of DR, until 2 weeks ago and didn't noticed more damage, when shifting with full throttle.
Did you tried the manual-cluch? It is kind of frustrating in the beginning, but very rewarding, when mastered. With the manual-clutch, you can get cars into drifting way easier, and when you try to accelerate, but your rpm are to low, you can hit the clutch, rev the engine up, and be much faster this way.
But misshifting will force you to go back to N and stay there for half a sec before you can shift again. And locking the wheels(maybe in a jump or E-brake) without kicking the clutch can stall the engine, and it takes forever to get it going again, if you dont have momentum to get it going this way.

i never lift to shift unless its a tricky section.

i ran a whole 10min worth of a stage with the gears grinding the whole time hitting the rev limit in 2nd and it held together...... i did get "spirit of the rally" though..

OK, thanks for answers guys... So I assume that DR has no clutch damage yet, so there's nothing to worry about... ! Regards!

You should still blip your throttle for better traction control. Its not about the damage its about the control. blip up or down dependingon down shift or upshift.

Basically always try to match your engine speed to gears road speed. Hard to explain but I am sure most of you got my point.

Jerky shifts can cause loss of control and make you spin out. Smooth is precise. Jerky is chaos
I do not know how realistic D.R.'s current implementation of cltuch and gearbox is in this specific detail: As a general rule: It is just good car-control to lift and blip while shifting: everybody that values balance does this almost automatically... ...unless it is the last piece of straight where you sometimes do not lift to gain those magic thenths of a second.
The reason you do not want to overuse this technique is: clutch heat & wear. Just like brakes: once overheated: they will start to slip / go ineffective on you. With a clutch this means: you loose almost all power when mishandling them!

On the other hand: there is such a thing as a "shift-lock" initiation of a drift in a RWD car. I use this instead of the handbrake on a fast and precise direction-change when I want to conserve some speed. Just wanting to bring the back around a quarter of a turn... ...good luck using the handbrake!
This is one of the reasons why I have recommended to watch Keiichi Tsuchya's "drift bible" video in the past: for rallying a rwd car through some tight, twisty bits, some of these techniques are transferable almost 1:1.

edit: this is also the precise reason why many "sequential"-gearbox equipped cars still offer a manual clutch-pedal to "override" the power-transmission when needed! So now you know why a third pedal for sequential shifting is kind of a big deal for rally -- and people are so eagerly awaiting it's implementation in this game!
