Logitech DFGT + manual sequential and adding a clutch?
I was intrigued by the clutch override option added in the latest update which was discussed during the latest DiRT Show on YouTube.

Firstly although I've seen references to some wishing to use a clutch for a simulated sequential gearbox, with some asking what's the point, and others commenting that in the real world the modern manual sequential cars don't have/need clutches with others stating they do.

Anyway I use the default 2-pedal DFGT setup so a clutch as pedal is out. So up until now I haven't used a clutch. I know one can bind clutch as a button, but I didn't see the point as the simulation includes automatic clutch.

The clutch override option refers to disengaging a clutch to apply power to the wheels (in particular RWD I guess?) during tight turns. Which if you used clutch as a button would not make any sense since how would you disengage it unless you held a button (representing a clutch) during a turn and then let it go at the right time and this would work in manual sequential mode?

Sorry if I'm not making any sense at all :) I know what a clutch is but in the game have never used so was just trying to clarify for myself how the new override option is supposed to function and would it be for example relevant only for those with a H-pattern shiffer and an actual clutch enabled.

Fair point.. If I don't have a H-shifter is there any point? I guess from the point of view of trying the clutch override to "disengage the clutch" during a hairpin i might make sense. And even when using sequential gears? I'll look into it :)

I have a DFGT and use sequential shifting + Clutch override.

And the clutch override is to ENGAGE the Clutch in times of shifting.
Without a clutch you have engine brake every time you let go of the gas, and when your shifting down/Up.
(Because with sequential the clutch simply does not exist in this game without the override option. and thats wierd)
Its makes your driving slower overall, besides the fact it takes some time to get used to driving with a clutch.

So with Engaging the clutch you can shift down and up without braking on the engine , and rev the engine up for extra power pulling you out of a corner.
Simply better car/engine control when used to it.
It makes total sence to use with sequential shifting because this game has no automatic clutch with sequential and thats not good.
A sequential gearbox should always have a clutch, can be automatic or manual but it need one of those. but the game does not have a good automatic one with sequential gears.
And we use sequential as a H-Shift to so clutch is common and logical.

So, long story short.
There is a point to use Clutch with Sequential and H-patern shifting.

-And just a Tip.
I use an old microsoft sidewinder steeringwheel with pedals as Extra pedal set.
The cheapest solution out there, Now i have 4 pedals :)
You can find some old non FFB steering wheel for 10/15 Euros, and your done.

I thought in the control settings UX it referrred to disengaging the clutch. Have to read it again. I drive in the real world with clutch and manual shifter all the time. And gotten used to sequential with brake and gas only on the computer :) Yes would be good idea to look at a cheap pedal set, I guess anything that can allow the clutch to fuction on an axis would do the job...

By the way if you're using a clutch pedal with DFGT and sequential gears are you engaging the clutch everytime you shift up or down? And have you been able to do so up until now or only since the clutch override has been enabled?

From mecanical standpoint indeed called disengaging the clutch, but you engage the clutch pedal from drivers standpoint. It just depands how you look at it, btw im not trying to be a smart ass :)

I use it just like a normal car with H-Shift mostly, using clutch pedal while shifting up and down.
While on stops and to control the car while braking and blasting out of hairpins by reving up a bit and releasing the clutch.
There are a lot of posibilities on when to use the clutch and when you want enginebrake or not
But you save a bit of speed/time while you downshift becuase you can delay the enginebrake a bit and let the car roll free when needed.
And it depands on the type of gearbox in car, some cars dont need clutch to upshift with some of the gearboxes used in racing.( I look it up for most cars i drive)
But i just like a bit of realism, and i mostly drive the old rally cars that have manual gearbox.
But prepair to work when racing with clutch, one handling more to do and takes a while getting used to.
And heel/toe is possible :)

befor the update i was not able to use the clutch, and i am happy i can use it now :)
When you drive manual IRL you will love being able to use it in games.
