Here's how to end a championship
I must be very stupid but I never noticed the option to abandon a championship before... I've read posts about this before and most people say that in order to end or leave a championship you have to retire or get a DNF every rally and in the end the championship will be over. So yesterday, before I totally reset my profile, I tried to get from Masters to Pro this way: I started every rally, chose retire and so on. Obviously this was a chore and it took too much time...

By accident I discovered today that when you go to the championships in career mode and highlight (not select!) a championship you get the option at the bottom of the screen to see the Championship details (which already is a nice thing I didn't notice before). But when you go that that screen with details, it will offer you a new option: Abandon championship! Exactly what I was looking for (because I like to play a new Clubman championship after finishing one instead of getting promoted to Pro).

I thought I'd share this here for everyone else who is just as stupid as me. ;)

I am not familiar with the championship settings because I have not played the game much, but you are not stupid. If the UI is not clear and there are more users that never knew about this option then I would consider this a desgin flaw in the UI. This is good information, perhaps it is something the devs need to look into.

I have been too scared to click abandon championship because I'm not sure if it will reset me back to the first clubman championship. All I want to do is change to a different car yet still continue in the elite champioship. Do I have to race all the way to masters in order to change my car?

I will also note that if you enter into the first race then retire after setting off. You will still get paid for 'competing' in the event.
Whereas abandoning the championship will not pay.

They reduced the amount, though. I think I got 15-20K from retiring at masters once.

Abandoning will set you back one level. It will not set you back all the way to the first (which btw is Open, not Clubman). However, if you already scored a few points in a rally there is a chance you won't end up among the last three and you will stay in the same level. No guarantees though. ;) If you want to be sure you won't be relegated, finish in the top 3 two times before abandoning, that should do it. I think.

Bizarrely you can occasionally be awarded a very large prize for retiring. I got 155K at Masters less than two weeks ago.
