Is there a trick to reversing??

What exactly am I missing about reversing your car? I'm playing the game with an Xbox 360 controller and "Brake/Reverse" is mapped to the left trigger.

When I pull it, the car brakes. So far, so good.

But it doesn't reverse. No matter how long I pull the trigger, no matter if I'm at complete standstill, no reverse.

Is there a trick I'm missing? Is this a bug?

To reverse with automatic gearing you have to stop completely, then lift off of the trigger and push it again. So you have to push it when your car stands still, if it moves even a tiny bit, you will brake instead of reversing.

That's actually an advice in the loading screens, too.

Using the handbrake to hold the car in place will also help with this.

Hm, unfortunately it still doesn't work for me, even when I hold the handbrake. :(

Have you tried restarting the game/your PC since? I've had bugs with controllers before that recquire me to restart before they iron themselves out. Perhaps try verifying your games files too if you haven't already.

Sorry to say there was no real solution for him but switching to manual gearing. I know it can be overwhelming for a 'new' player, but it's definitely worth it in the long run - both from a times and fun perspective.

Yet this is not what you wanted to hear right now, I get it. :)

Yup. I hold the trigger to brake to a complete standstill. I release it completely (optionally holding down the handbrake). I hold the trigger down again to reverse. Nothing.

I got the same issue on Win 10 with Logitech Driving Force GT!
In Pre-Official-Releases it works fine without any problems, but now there's no way, except using manual shifting (which is currently way too difficult for me).

I found the trick: tap throttle, tap brake twice fast. Voilá: reverse.

You'll get better with practice, all those assists are useless anyway.
