Toe Out is which, Negitive or Positive Toe?
I'm abit confused on this. I've always used Toe In and Toe Out in games for tuning not positive or negitive degrees and the terms In and Out arn't in the game at all. I've read contradictory things about this, one guide saying one way and another guide saying the opposite. So which is it? Is Toe In Negitive Degrees and Toe Out Positive Degrees? Because that's what it's seeming like to me.

It says in game under front toe angle "A positive toe angle can increase turn-in response at the cost of stability" and I know for a fact that Toe Out on the front wheels will increase turn-in. Also I know that Toe Out on the rear wheels will make oversteer worse and in game under rear toe angle it says "A negative toe angle on the rear wheels can make oversteer more manageable". So Negitive has to be Toe In and Positive has to be Toe Out right?

Positive is out, Negative is in.
That being said, let me give you this advice: Don't tinker with the toes.

At the beginning it's you, not your setup and definitely not the toe setting. It almost certainly will do more harm than good while learning the game to change this specific setting. Just an advice.

Thanks but I play alot of sim games with wheel, pcars the f1 games ect. I know how they can mess things up if set wrong which is why I wanted to make sure know which is which ;)
even on Tarmac a rally car is very different from a road racer.
As far as I know, in the real world, positive=toe in and negative=toe out. I've seen some games that do the opposite. As far as this game goes, they got it all mixed up. For the rear, they have the values right: pos=in/neg=out, but the description is wrong. For the front in game they have pos=out/neg=in, so the description and values are wrong.

This is correct. Hence peoples confusion.
The DiRT logic seems to be if you picture a protractor over the car from the top-down and measure the angle of the RIGHT side wheels. A positive angle would be toe out and negative, in.

If that were true, all the cars I've set up in different sims over the years would have been undrivable. Also every guide on the internet would be wrong (outside of the one in DR's guide section). And every sim that describes this (like Assetto Corsa).

Ok this explains it then. I was testing to try and see which was which using max toe one way or the other other and getting confused. Now that you say that it makes perfect sence. Front Toe is def Positive is Out and Negitive is Toe In. Where as with the Rear Toe it's opposite and Positive is In and Negitive is Toe Out.. Very confusing but seems to be how it's working..

It's true for this game unfortunately.

Well, they NEED to fix this then. That's just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid. Codemasters can't just go and apply their own "logic" to a worldwide established term. I mean, really, what the hell? Seriously.

"Here's what people call a 'steering wheel'. But we're gonna call it a 'leehw gnireets', because we're cool and different."

WTF. I'm.. ugh.. Codemasters, why are you so codemasters sometimes...

I agree. More distressting than it being backwards from RL, which yah it's a bummer but I could live with, is the fact that the front and rear wheels settings are reversed. Front is backwards from RL but Rear wheels are the same as RL... THAT needs to be fixed no matter what so they match cause right now the description in game is flat wrong on the rear toe angle the opposite of what it says there is true.

This is why most people refer to "toe-in" vs "toe-out".

Writing a guide for this was a little confusing.

I feel now I owe you an apology, for the comment I made on your guide. So, I'm sorry. It's clear that it wasn't a mistake by you, but by Codemasters.

I had not even read the in-game descriptions until this thread came up, because I know what toe does, or how it's *supposed* to work. And this does explain why my setups have gone funky sometimes.

So, could someone post this on their official forums, if it's not there already? I really don't feel like making an account just for this and I'm also so ticked off about this right now, I'd probably be banned instantly, if I made a thread there right now, lol.

I posted a long explaination of the issue in the bug reporting part of their fourms and copied it to the 1.0 bug report that is pinned here on steam. Hopefully they read it, and understand, this is a serious issue that needs resolving asap.

Alright, thanks much. Yeh, they need to sort this out. My mind is quite boggled as to why and how it still is how it is, at 1.0. (granted, it did go sort of unnoticed for me as well, outside of the odd issues when setting up a car due to this)
