Is using the handbrake a must in this game?
Hey guys, I'm wondering if using a handbrake is a must. I currently have G27 and I don't like pressing red buttons as a handbrake.

Can I drive decently on the hardest difficulties without a handbrake? Is it a must for rally games? I've only played assetto corsa/rfactor2 and it's not a must at all.

Not a must but can help a lot in some situations, like tight harpins.

I, personaly, use G27 paddles for shiffting and have shiffter with some rubber bands, for hand brake, and works like a charm.

It certainly comes in handy from time to time. Some of the old-school purist will frown at you if you use the handbrake on the 80's and older cars, but mastering the use of it will certainly speed up your stage times. If you are using the flappy paddles with a sequential gearbox setup, you could map your handbrake to 4th gear on your H-shifter. That's how I do it and I think it works pretty good. Yeah, you certainly don't want to map it to a button, especially on the wheel itself.

Depends on the car. Depends on the corner. You will need it, if not often. Depending on how you drive.

In a car I can handle, I tend to only handbrake acutes and tight hairpins. Brake hard enough and you should have little trouble getting the back out - but having the handbrake to tighten a turn, or scrub some speed in an emergency is probably too useful to really do without, if you can help it

That said, you can probably get away without for the most part, bar moments like the constant curvy corners of Germany.

If using a button mind, note that you don't need to hold it down. A brief tap or two should do what you need.

i really only use it on sharp turns or making small corrections in turns. once you get the flick (weight transfer) down it makes it easler.

i use the handbreak alot but the way i have it set up on my g27 is i use the right paddle for hand brake because i use the h shifter for all my shifting. i find that way its easy to get too while still turning. rather then trying to use a button on the wheel or shifter.

I also have the G27 but use it in both H pattern + sequential paddle.. I did do away with the handbrake trying it settup on one of the gearbox face buttons... Not so easy to fumble for as I panic halfway through a tight hairpin I hadn't turned the car into enough! Lol..

I have now mapped the handbrake to the top right red wheel button.. It seems to do the trick, although not a perfect solution I certainly do need to use it, due to my crappy driving!

Does anyone run one of these fancy fanatec handbrakes? I could do with getting one but don't think it would be so easy to mount on my old classic playseat.

I have the handbrake mapped to my clutch pedal instead, so I use auto-clutch....a small sacrifice to pay for being able to have an analogue handbrake as opposed to an 'on' or 'off' handbrake.

1. Buy a cheap analog joystick, make it stick to your chair/table/fancy-thingy
2. Buy a fanatec handbrake + usb adapter (for Europe 30% + Vat price increase)
3. Buy a heusinkveld-handbrake. 209 euros. If in stock it will be sold out quickly.
4. Go on ebay and buy some of the diy handbrakes from unknown companies or lone-man diy
5. Go to Derek Speaks and give him 350 usd for a handbrake
6. Go to Frex. It's Japanese
7. Buy a spare G25/G27 shifter, order Leo Bodnars adapter, and diy your shifter into a handbrake.

1 and 4 are a hit and miss. Maybe it feels weird or wrong, or the companie is not trustworthy, but with paypall you can order moneyz back. There is a russian company who offer nice looking good handbrakes and SEQ shifter. I wanted to buy one, but I went for DSD SEQ

2, 3 and 5 are analog, with 2 with on/off and analog switch

6 is only on/off if I remember, but has best feeling.

Thanks for this :) the likely responses from my wife for some of these:

"You want to spend how f****** much"
"but you brought that wheel thing"
"F*** off, get out"
"Can't you just use your Xbox 4"

Well there is WAF: Wife acceptance factor. :P I think she will love Fanatec, cause it's tidy and clean looking. If you want go over the top you buy DSD it's hydraulic. Heusinkveld is loadcell. Frex no idea. Need to look at that. But but I would stay away from all Fanatec products since the price increase of 30% + vat since june. It's a german company, but assambles everything in China, but Chinese valuta > Euro is bad. If you live in USA. or worldwide. Fanatec products are good.

Oh I forgot to mention TH8A shifter from Thrustmaster. It has analog mode too. But you want to use it as h-pattern / SEQ rather than spending 140 euro's on a analog handbrake without any good resitance, grip and such. It's Fanatec, Heusinkveld, Derek, Frex or that Russian guy in Ebay named Dimsim. It's 84 euro's but it looks sexy. it's on/off but has resistance and such. I never bough it but paypall = money back :P

You are stoking my need to properly sort this handbrake out now!.. What kinda raceseat do you have your handbrake bolted too?

I even had to mod the pedal plate on mine, just to fit the g27 pedals on.

I like the look of that Dimsim handbrake pro! I just won't tell the wife.

That Dimsim guy put one item per selling on it. Just Bookmark his "profile page". I've a GT Omega Supreme since September. But with my own change, becaus GT Omega has kind of leather, and I've cats. and Cats + leather is bad idea. haha. Also I've GTEye for G27 pedals. and aftermarket wheel + longer paddles + some buttonstuff-thingy from Zalem.es

Simracing is a nice hobby. You've to look for good stuff but not too costy. You can make it as expensive as you want.

For gaming rigs I would suggest 80/20. It's best moddeable etc. It may looks ugly, but you can paint it black, hehe.

the handbrake can be useful depending on the cars. I am using the left paddle of the G27 as handbrake. Shifting gears with the H shifter. Note, if you can, master the scandinavian flick and you won't use the handbrake as much. Basics, turn the opposite direction then slam into the direction of the turn. This will upset the balance of the car but it works pretty well. Another thing, brake balance can reduce the need for handbrake.

my pro handbrake of ec simhardware is not working on this title.
