I also stream on Twitch when I'm racing and I've yet to have anyone say they think the physics look wonky, gimicky, funky, or indicate in any way that the chase cam turns them off to the game. In fact, I've made a few sales for Codemasters while streaming the game on Twitch. :)
I can't speak for the feel with a controller. I've used my wheel 100% of the time so far.
I don't really get what you're trying to say. What exactly is wrong with it and how could it be improved? One thing I've noteiced is that after V2 the cars seem to slightly move sideways even on straights and I'm not sure if it's because of the physics or the camera (I hope it's the latter).
Do you suggest the camera should be locked to the back of the car 100% of the time?
And for a barrel roll, what would you suggest would look realistic? I'd say probably no reaction, just look at the car rolling down the hill....
I really have nothing more to add to that.
Xbox controller works great in cockpit view...
I don't know why anyone would use chase view. I just have noticed chase view makes the physics look wonky.
You do realise that wonky is not a scientific term for describing physics?
Apparently it is not obvious to a lot of people, me included. So if you can't elaborate on wonky, how can we try to understand? And believe me, this is one of the few communities on steam that actually tries to understand issues and offer possible solutions (the majority of people anyway).
I personally do not like chase cams in any racing game. For one for the disconnected feel you have from the car, which, as was pointed out earlier, is necessary to not make the camera shake at every small steering impulse or bump in the road. But I never noticed it influencing the physics in any way, even on a purely visual level.
It's the same wonky chase camera in codemasters other games...
Personally there are alot of other things I'd like to see fixed before I worry about a chase cam in a game that is supposed to be Sim based.
Feel free to insert offended response and name calling below.
There's a solution to that in the form of this mod:

THIS THIS OMG DEVS <3
If it can be modded out, should be an easy addition for next patch.
Apart from the V2 weirdness I mentioned earlier I don't see the problem. I remember the game looking really weird when looking at the benchmark test the game has for the first time. Maybe it just looks weird since you're not driving yourself?
The biggest problem is probably when the view gets obstructed by something like branches when you're driving near trees: The camera can go ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and you don't even know which way you're facing.
There are pros and cons to the fact that the camera isn't locked to the rear at all times: The car is more difficult to control, but when the car actually "escapes" the camera you know you're losing control and starting to spin. It's helpful because you don't feel the car in the same way as you would in first person.

Looks incredibly weird to me and I'd rather stick with the old one. But if it fixes a problem for some people, good for them.
Now that I think of it, I might test it to see if the V2 "sliding" is because of the camera of the physics.
Well the camera should at least lag a bit behind the car's turn rate...
That just looks weird.
See every single other game out there that does chase camera right...
AgentHeX, the author of this mod did the same for GRID 2 and Autosport. For those he even uploaded multiple combinations of the effects, so you could choose a version with only 'lag' enabled.
In your OP put a space between the link and the ", because this way it doesn't work.
EDIT:
Yes, it does look weird but with the default chase cam you can never tell where the car is pointing exactly, because of those effects that intend to smooth out the camera ride. This never bothered me while driving with a keyboard in arcade racing games, but with a wheel it was really off putting.
