Ford Focus RS 2001 vs. Subaru Impreza 2001

The Subaru seems to be way faster than the Focus. For sure the Focus handles better but its much slower. I tested in on a german tarmac stage and i lost 20 seconds in the Focus on a sprint stage eventhough i was driving much cleaner than in the Subaru. The Subaru was ~30 km/h faster on some straights and accelerates much better.
How are these cars supposted to compete? Or am i missing something, doing something wrong?

Look up the fastest times for that stage for the 2000 class and see the difference between the top impreza and focus.
Anything else could just be your bad driving or setup.

I haven't driven the new cars much, but what I *have* noticed is that the 2000s cars seem much more affected by upgrade status than the other classes. The performance gap between fully developed and undeveloped cars seems larger in this class than in the others. Are your cars at the same upgrade level? Because if not, that could account for all of most of the difference. With the default gearing, the undeveloped Focus can't really make it to 6th gear unless it's going down hill. ;)

Are the cars fully upgraded at the custom events outside the career? Than it would make sense that im that much slower in the Foucs that i just bought in the career.

Yes, in custom events the cars are always fully upgraded.

soo the subaru is the fastest?
I got the subaru just because I love the sound he does

One thing I don't get is why the Subaru Impreza 1995 is able to hit 200Km/h and the Focus which is 6 years ahead doesn't get past 175Km/h.
I also haven't seen Subaru 2001 hit 200Km/h, while in real WRC they do hit that speed and even go through 210km/h in some straights.

Do i have to set a longer gearbox or shouldn't the default setup allow these cars to run faster?

With the default tarmac setup in Germany, the Focus tops out around 185 kph, but it's certainly capable of going faster with taller gearing. The default setup has a decent balance of top end vs. acceleration, but in some of the German and Finnish stages I could see going a bit taller on the gears.
