No... I mean the G29 add on shifter
How can you prefer the pads before the shifter? How do you handbrake?
in preferences, not controller options.
i use one of my paddle shifts as handbrake too...
you can really pivot the rear.
plus it takes forever to auto shift...
i use the handbrake rarely, but when u need it, u need it..
normally because you have failed to achieve enough pivot with the braking down shift.
in the really tight hairpins.
every tweak helps..
yes dancing on the peddals was a nightmare at first, but now its clicked its actually adds quite a lot of the fun...
left foot braking and heel and toe shifting rock... with the odd clutch kick when you bog down in hairpins..
i was quicker when i had my h box set in sequential mode. but hbox manual is just more fun.
plus finding reverse is a doddle... sequential reverse with it auto switching back to first was driving me nuts...
You will be perfectly able to just destroy your engine with a single downshift :P
Using the H-Shifter ads a handicap to the game imho..
I use 4th for Handbrake and 3rd for clutch...
Clutching with FWD in corners are really awesome
Handicap? Why? Is it not more fun? I bloody hate when i crash, and have to spam until i get reverse.
And... Clutching with fwd? What do you mean?
And using handbrake is essential for fwd
Honestly: just won Masters in Group-A Lancia Delta. All the while doing the clutch+ h-shift thing. I cheated only in that I allowed myself endless restarts on two stages... ...until I did not crash. I wanted 6 times 1st place on that run-through (haters: fire at will ;-)
nothing more rewarding than getting the "pedal-dance" down to a t - while "rowing" your own gears.
Both hands on the wheel make the world of difference - especially with those twisty SAT forces.
I tried doing the H-shifter + clutch but that's INSANELY HARD and doesn't work perfectly:
- Not using the clutch will de-sync the position of the gear-lever and the selected gear
- clutch pedal doesn't give feedback, so i don't know when it couples.
- 80% of the time i only have left hand on wheel which is not optimal.
So eventually i've "downgraded" to Paddle shifters and then using the H-shifter for handbrake and clutch ... using it as clutch is much easier than the foot pedals.
regarding the FWD clutching:
coming round a corner, the KitCars need a Clutch-boost .. simply decouple and couple to rev up and get moving.
true. no dog-box and/or no clutchless shifts are simulated, sadly.
maybe I'm not oldschool enough. The clutch pedal (hydraulic) in my run-about does not give any feedback either. Only thing "clutch-like" about it is the degressive counter-force over the pedal-travel. You mean the loss of counter-pressure on engagement?
I'm not saying you're wrong for not doing it the way e.g. I do it. However, it is my opinion that leaving the shift-hand on the shift-lever for 80% of the time would be "doing it wrong".
That would be the cheap-skate way of taxi-driving, yet totally not in a cool way like in those french comedy movies. And most seasoned taxi-guys try and buy automatics, anyway - I'm told.
again: when it comes to the choise of input-device: you play it the way you enjoy to play it.
I haven't got the need to be an alien, so I opt for emulating the real thing as much as I dare. Getting in the right mindset to understand how the real cars must have felt in the hands of their real drivers, that's what I am after.
Granted: using paddle-shifters gives you more options and in general will make you drive faster, faster.
Yes they are pretty awesome race-conversions. Nothing like their roadgoing siblings.
I'm shifting ALL the time... i downshift while braking, i downshift through corners.. then there's all the upshifting..
only a few locations like Finland and maybe Sweden can be driven without too much shifing.
Wales and Monaco are insane in regards to shifting.
that's why i end up driving with 1 hand.
