How do you turn off hands & arms in dirt rally?
Someone told me that this would help the response time for my wheel

Response time is the total amount of time it takes to respond to a request for service. That service can be anything from a memory fetch, to a disk IO, to a complex database query, or loading a full web page. Ignoring transmission time for a moment, the response time is the sum of the service time and wait time.

Did you mean input lag?
:steamfacepalm:
In video games, input lag is either the delay between the television or monitor receiving a signal and it being displayed on the screen (see display lag below), or the delay between pressing a button and seeing the game react.

Wow that is some weapons-grade pedantry right there.

Turning off the arms will make the wheel on-screen rotate at the same rate as your actual wheel. The car handling remains unaffected in either case.
I think the setting is in the profile section.

Potential causes of delay from pressing a button to the game reacting

Console/PC processes next frame
A videogame console or PC will send out a new frame once it has finished performing the necessary calculations to create it. In situations where the CPU and/or GPU load is high, FPS can drop below the monitors refresh rate. Thus create inpu lag due to weak hardware. To fix it, lower the graphic setting.

The other potential cause can be Display lag
This is the lag caused by the television or monitor (which is also called "input lag" by the first definition above, but "output lag' by the second definition). Image processing (such as upscaling, 100 Hz, motion smoothing, edge smoothing) takes time and therefore adds some degree of input lag. It is generally considered that input lag of a television below 30 ms is not noticeable,[5] discussions on gaming forums tend to agree with this value. Once the frame has been processed, the final step is the pixel response time for the pixel to display the correct colour for the new frame.

Another suggestion is by switching between Full Screen & Windows mode by pressing ALT+ENTER.

1920X1080 59.94hz, 4XMSAA, VSync ON Ultra preset

That's about 3~4 frames of delay compared to real time. If I turn off VSync it will lower to 3 & if I use a CRT monitor it'll drop to 2, I suppose. If I remove the MSAA it will maybe drop to 1 ot no lag at all...

Thanks for your reply, turning off vsync, removing msaa and lowering the graphics helped a tad yet its still pretty off and unplayable. My monitor is 5ms by the way. is there any other solution you can think of?

The 5ms is the respond time & not the input lag number.

The best solution would be to upgrade to a more powerful graphic card. If you have a laptop, upgrade to a gaming desktop computer.
