So i tryed the realistic damage mod and here's what i have to say
http://www.racedepartment.com/threads/hardcore-damage-model-for-dirt-rally.108078/ <-- link to the mod.
I give this mod a 7/10 theres a few reasons why i wont give it any more.
What i like about this mod is that it brings new damage to mess around with Ex. suspension actually breaks/collapses if it takes a hard enough hit or landing on the wheel/side,wheel axles snap with out the wheel actually comeing off,Wheels wobble more when damaged, body pannels take more of a realistic beating. all these new types are fun but heres a few why i just cant give this mod any more points
When the radiator takes a slight -and i mean a slight tap- it will get damaged and when the radiator is damaged with this mod its only a matter of time befor the engine starts dieing. unlike the base game when the radiator is damaged it takes ALOT longer for the engine to start dieing with this mod it usually takes 2-3 more minutes with a damaged radiator for the engine to go.
Also you cant use race-net when the mod is installed, actually i dont know if this mod is allowed mabey a dev can give me a little insight if it is allowed or not.
so overall yes i do recremend this mod for the lol's but keep the base damage model around IF like me you think the radiator damage is a bit to much.

I think the mod is allowed since it doesn't change any off the physics. Changing physics is bannable even if you make them better or not. Anyway, the mod is made from someone that doesn't know anything about cars or how they work. I don't even think he has a drivers license (if i remember correctly he said that before). I'm not sure if this is Templars newest update or not, but he also has a mod called "Whatever you do, don't crash" wich is basically the same as the hardcore damage mod, but updated. You can find it on the Steam forums.

FWIW, if you damage a radiator in real life, such that it starts to leak significantly, your engine really won't last long. First it'll overheat a bit, which will reduce power, then if the water goes altogether, it's only a matter of minutes before it seizes. I know, this has happened to me more than once. Even a moderate loss of coolant can cause catastrophic damage, because if the cylinder head can't be cooled, you'll get preignition which can burn out a valve or piston, or blow the head gasket. I've not really noticed the standard game modelling any of this - power drops a bit, that's all. You can still drive flat out for miles and miles, not realistic.

Yeah, but as he explains it, it's only a small tap and it breaks. If that's really the case it's completely wrong.

Radiators do drain quickly after a big hit, but patched in the field they should last. It's a pity the mod can't model that.

As an Australian, I know a couple of ways to plug a leak - given the vast distances between towns a cracked radiator can kill you in some regions. Including using a fried egg - although I have my doubts about that one.

How to fix a radiator: Chewing gum and plasters.

Isn't there an old myth that you can crack an egg into the radiator as a temp fix too?

Yep, the idea is that the egg white will find its way to the leak and set, forming a plug. Seems a bit hit and miss, and who has an egg on them?

One thing you should never, ever do is use Radweld (a product sold for this purpose) as it basically finds its way into all the narrow little coolant passages and sets hard, blocking them. The problem then only gets worse. Again, I know that from experience (a previous owner did this to my car, I wondered why no matter what I tried I had persistent overheating issues, until I stripped the engine and found eveything blocked up with the damn stuff).

I've heard that a few times.

My personal favourite is uniquely Australian: Clay Mud, Oil and Spinafex(a native plant similar to Camel Grass rolled into a kind of putty and then allowed to dry. It's very similar to what mud huts are made of, I can imagine it would work in a pinch.

Well, it often doesn't take much to damage the radiator. Just look at Paddon this year in Sweden (from 0:25 onwards):

Imho the mod looks a bit stupid with cars deforming as if they were made of paper. Rally cars just don't bend like that.

This is true. They wouldn't survive long in the back of a rally car either.
