Questions about Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback Wheel
Hey,

I've been looking to buy a gaming wheel and the main game that I'll use it for will be dirt rally, so i thought id ask for some advice here :) I've found a cheap 2nd hand "Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback Wheel" that seems to be in good shape, but as I know very little about these things I wonder if it would be a good buy or not? Will it run on this game without problems etc?

Thanks :)

Those are over 14 years old. Probably not a lot of support for them anymore.

hey! i had the Sidewinder Pro joystick (1998!) when i was a kid! I played the PC version of the N64 Star Wars game on it. That thing was ancient, but I was able to use it for YEARS and years. According to some quick research since its a microsoft product it technically still works on these new operating system. Its possible the wheel might, tho the game refused to see my wheel from like 2006.

I actually just uninstalled this game until I can find a affordable wheel. Its unplayable with a controller.

Also, @flyer, his equipement is actually 18-19 years old.

On the flip side, I will say that was a remarkable wheel for its time...

MSFFB Wheel does work and is supported, but occassionally causes annoying stuttering and fps drops.

I wouldn't recommend buying one now, to be honest, unless it is extremely cheap or preferably free. Would recommend getting a used DFGT instead (which is exactly what I did to replace my old Sidewinder).

Driving Force GT.

Driving Force GT, G25, G27 ( from less expensive to most expensive ) would be better choices. You can buy them for cheap, in 2nd hand / used, if you look around.

Alright, thank you for answers, will look around for those!

Sim Racing can be expensive. That said, if you can manage it, consider a used Thrustmaster T300rs (PC + playstation comnpatibility) or Thrustmaster TX (PC + xbox one compatibility).

Agreed! I went tx, t3pa(3 pedal set) and th8a shifter(7 speed shifter). Also built a pvc cockpit.

Get a driving Force GT as entry level drug. Then save up and buy a Fanatec CSW. Expensive but totally worth it.

My Microsoft sidewinder force feedback still works in 2024 and it allowed me to get into my Sim racing adventure!! By now it is older than me but it just keeps on giving ahaha.

I am sure it is not as good as a brand new g29 or t150 but it allows you to feel the car well enough to see if you enjoy sim racing or not. I have had the best experience with it so far on RaceRoom and Richard Burns Rally... In Rfactor 1 and assetto corsa I couldn't feel what was happening with the car so well but it was drivable nonetheless.
I am not sure if the problem is in the wheel or if I just have to setup something in order to make it feel better on these sims.

Either way I would say the Microsoft sidewinder force feedback wheel would be a good deal to start out if you can find it in the 30-40€ range
