Lancia 037 Evo stability
I really do not understand why it is so hard to control. I play with the Thrustmaster T500, all the helps disabled and the standard car set-up.
There's no other RWD car in the game that reacts like the 037, in my opinion is a big oversteer problem (or very low ground-wheels grip), to just touch the accelerator makes it drift TOO easily and basically I'm always turning the wheel on the right and left very fastly for compensate the perennial oversteer, especially on Wales/Finland stages. I tried the Opel Manta 400 on the same tracks and it is a lot more drivable.

So, my question is if I'm the only one who noticed this. I also tried to change the car settings (also if usually I use the standard ones) for increase grip and stability but the difference wasn't enough.

let off the gas to stabalize. Maybe try find and stay in one gear as much as possible. I like to shift alot and de-cluth... feels good. Also do mo stearing with the throttle. It swaps side to side really well.

Handful for sure...

A difficult car to corner with in real life, apparently, due to the immense power and low weight and rear engine configuration. Could have been better developed in DiRT Rally to improve the mechanical grip as the real thing appears much more planted, especially in the front end.

You will probably still find it faster than the Manta once you get it hooked up. Throttle control is paramount in the 037 to prevent power-off oversteer and the inevitable snap oversteer back in the other direction. Quick hands, calm feet.

ever watched a real rally driver in one of those cars? That's basically what they do all the time and driving like that is the most fun imo. Stratos and 037 are by far my favourite cars in DR and rl, I drive them almost exclusively.

Adjust the setup like you would any powerful rwd, soften the rear springs, loosen the rear arbs, play with the differential and use longer gear ratios until you find something suitable for your needs.

Here is some cockpit footage the 037.

Blomkvist on gravel (with some telemetry):

Röhrl on tarmac:

I'll let you be the judge whether the game version of the car is accurate.

Here's a video I also really like. It's from a german television show, driving a Lancia Delta S4 on a short Hillclimb section on wet/icy tarmac. While the camera angle doesn't show the wheel you can see the drivers arms sawing the wheel all the time. There's basically no moment where he's keeping the wheel straight as he's constantly looking to find the maximum grip threshold.

I wouldn't count the first video as reference. Blomqvist was driving the 037 for a documentary in a very restricted condition, at a small track test with the car's owner closely watching, he barely ran over 60 kpm/h. The first video posted in the thread, with Paolo Andreucci driving the 037, shows some real performance, but in tarmac only.

The gauge is in mph btw.

Yeah "Mäster" Blomqvist is going extremely slowly in that 037 video. Not a good reference at all.

MPH? In an european documentary (Duke Video), with an european car?
tuz Jun 23, 2016 @ 7:14am
It says "mph" right there on the displayed gauge. Duke Video is from the Isle of Man (closely related to the UK).

The 037's diff is setup like no other RWD in the game.

Most RWD cars have a stronger braking and driving lock and low preload so you can really move the back end around off the power.

The 037 has relatively low braking and driving lock with a high preload.
If you change the diff to resemble something you're more used to driving you'll find it a hell of a lot easier. (It'll still be 'mid' engined though)
I could go into why the car is so wrong in the game, I brought it up when we were still V1 physics, I studied the tuning files and found major errors in the base setup. Especially suspension stiffness and the differential preload was in excess of 40x higher than the Manta for example. It even had values for a front differential which it shouldn't have had(although it was very good on gravel) I even altered the tuning files for (testing purposes only) in custom rally and the car was totally awesome, even told codemasters about it and was told they would look into it. They didn't, and then the V2 physics came but didn't come with any improvement to the 037. I believe they just applied a blanket update to the physics and that was it,

So, failing any update inthe future, what you can do is if you have advanced settings enabled is to run the rear suspension as soft as possible (although its still not enough) run the diff as loose as possible, a little toe in on the rear, in controller settings set the throttle saturation to 110% this has the effect of calming down the wheelspin (due to lack of grip) try it and let me know

I remember that discussion well and claiming they didn't look into it is just a lie. They did and they also reported back that the values for front differential in the tuning file are not being applied to the 037 as it has none.

I haven't played in a while but I did a full championship with the 037, with full manual + clutch a few months back.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qun4cwWmU6Q

I streamed the whole thing and this is a clip from one stage.. I honestly thought the car was incredible and most of the struggle with driving it comes from the fact that it has a lot of power (350bhp?) with not a lot of grip, even so the ingame version has a lot more grip than real life and can be driven harder/faster than the real thing.

Aside from 1 stall on this run it's quite evident that I'm not having any issues driving it, and infact it's quite predictable, it is a mid-engined RWD car and so it can't really be compared with the mantra
