I was trying to say that Codemasters made the most authentic physics engine they possibly could. I believe It's the most authentic ever in a Codemasters game, but yeah, it's not the best in the world.
You're right, and in the end in the context of a computer game having an unrealistic crash and being able to continue is probably more enjoyable than an RBR style crash where you rip the corner of the car off and have to retire or restart. So they've made a choice to make the game more appealing in the end because people will give up quickly if you have to basically be a pro rally driver in order to finish a stage in a pro rally car. Most everyone playing this game would lose control of a real WRC car within the first 20m when they realise just how hard it is to keep the real thing pointed in the right direction while launching it as hard as it can go. The forces my wheel can generate are just not comparable, the thump in the back from the seat is non-existant and nothing can ever really replicate driving a rally car in the comfort of your room at home.
So codemasters make an authentic rally game but is afraid of it being too authentic. So they come up with ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ damage physics that are totally not authentic but still advertise as authentic rally. There is one name for it and it's called false advertising. Because when I bought the game I expected it to be for real even when crashing my car which is important as the driving physics for me.
THAT is why it is so annoying when stupid, ltitle issues like the stage designm cars being like airplanes and stupid other things annoy some players so much.
I was just doing Hell rallycross in the rain for a daily, and I might aswell have been driving on ice in slicks
Those cars have phenomenal grip not the garbage given to thme by the woeful WRX pht=ycis in this game
Not even F1 cars have phenomenal grip in the rain.
I'm with tatcat here. The damage system is a design choice. If the damage was authentic, a crash could render your car completely undriveable, you couldn't finish the stage or fix the car in time, so you'd be completely out of the rally. That's what can happen in real WRC crashes. There would be no restart at all, instead you could continue in the next rally with a fixed car.
I think it's too unforgiving given how easy it is to crash in Dirt Rally. By default the game shouldn't completely ruin your entire championship thanks to a (small) driving mistake. But it should be an option for the people who want it.
No, they don't. Those cars have 600 horsepower, you can't expect them to grip up on wet tarmac.
For those who want a hyperrealistic crash simulator, consider getting in a real WRC car.
It just makes no sence at all. Why you even bother writing something like this. Its realy natural to expect realistic crashes in a game about driving and cars and which is supposed to be simulator.
It was never a simulator. They never advertised it as one. They advertised it as AUTHENTIC - there's a difference. :P
It's natural to expect "realistic crashes" in a game about crashing cars, IMHO.
If the goal of the game is to go fast through the woods and not hit stuff, and you're going to be restarting the stage if you DO ♥♥♥♥ up and hit something, what's the point in them developing a feature that you will see for 2 seconds and then restart the stage?
"Realistic" car damage even makes sense for a game like GTA where you will likely smash your car into all sorts of ♥♥♥♥ while doing whatever mission you're doing. But for a racing game like Dirt Rally where a single mistake will most likely end up forcing a restart, and you're PROBABLY using the first person view to drive anyway, why should they bother making the crashes realistic?
Because its part of the rally experiance and its definatelly not only the visual part that matters, but technical damage also. And it adds great deal of fun, but I understand that this opnly appeals to hardcore sim players, but I realy think saying that realistic crashes and damage dont belong in a rally game is complete nonsence.
