Using a joystick?
So I have only have a pc to game with at the moment and dont own a racing wheel but I do play alot of flight sim. I was wondering if a joystick would work for this game and give me the precision I need or if would be better off to buy a xbox controller or somthing?

It's best if you have a wheel for this type of game but if you have controller it will do just fine.
This guy does reviews of racing games and he uses wheel but he tried controller for this video:

Game is plenty fun with an Xbox controller, joystick would not be ideal.

I once used joystick to play nascar racing games(not arcade, but papyrus' games), and that fit well. But I guess that's no good idea on rally that require countless, neverending, and restless inputs like direction/accelerate/brake/gear changes.

You can play this game with any kind of controller, it's just a matter of you " git gud " with it, but a Joystick / Flightstick isn't the ideal one.

The better one would be a Wheel ( of course ) and the next one a Gamepad (with analog triggers). If you don't want to invest on a wheel, at least buy a Gamepad, they aren't expensive.

A Joystick / Flightstick, for this game, would be great to use as a Handbrake. I, like many more players, use one myself with my wheel, and works great.

I used to play F1 games with 2 cheap joysticks. One modified so it only moved up and down, and the pother could only move left and right. It was a thousand times better than keyboard.

Now, I'd love to use my Force Feedback Joystick for steering, and CH Pro Flight Sim Pedals ( with plastic chocks to stop the rudder action), but unfortunately, Dirt Rally doesn't recognise anything except keyboard and XBox Controller :(

I used to use a joystick for Grand Prix Legends online racing and was quite competitive. I'd still recommend getting a wheel instead though lol.
