Old Microsoft SideWinder Wheel and pedals working fine with windows 10 :)
Hi guys,
just to let you know.. If some of you are interested to use their 15 years old Microsoft Wheel, it works out of the box without doing anything special, including the force feedback !!

Mine was in the garage since more than 10 years and as I bought DR for Christmass I needed something else than keyboard because I missed the first corver during 10 minutes :)

So I remember I had a nice wheel when I was a bit younger, found it, removed dust, plugged it in my Win 10 64 bits, then windows installed the drivers after plugin the USB. I was thinking it is a good start but was still doubting it would work... Then started the game and DR recognized it direcltly :) Cool :)

I also bought Dirt 4 but didn't installed it yet.... Hope it will work as well :)

If you find this old wheel on ebay for a few euros (or else :) don't hesitate !
As you can see it is robust... still working after 15 years :)

Happy new year ! Have fun
Manu

Can you tell me how this wheel is actually working for you? Particularly, the brake/throttle axis? I have the SideWinder Force Feedback precision racing wheel (red grips) and Windows 10 64 bit, and it is installing as the generic "HID-compliant game controller" and it is putting the brake pedal on the Z axis all by itself, with the throttle pedal on +y axis. This causes a lot of problems with any driving game I play, because they can't map those inputs correctly. What does the name of the driver show up as for yours?
Where did you find the drivers?
For anyone still interested in using these steering wheels in Windows 10 (really, anything later that Windows XP), I did find a fix for the pedal axis issue and have tried it myself, and it DOES work! You have to modify the 4-pin RJ-11 cable a little bit. Take one end of the cable, clip the connector off, and then crimp a new RJ-11 plug with the wires in the opposite order. It's like what's referred to as a "rollover" cable. So pin 1 is now pin 4, pin 2 is now pin 3, etc. The other this is that every time you plug in the wheel to the computer (USB) you have to hold down the brake pedal for a few seconds as you're plugging it in. The same is true for any time you restart your computer with the wheel plugged in. Works great!

Mine worked great with the stock Windows drivers in Windows 10 x64, using the cable mod method I explained here. Nothing special to manually install, just plug and play
