Not much help, but I have the Logitech 920(newer version of the 29) and it works fine. I have read other people using the G29 fine as well so i'd check a few things on your PC.

Not recognized at all or is it considered a gamepad ingame?

My G920 is recognized as a gamepad. I've tried everything I have found searching, and nothing seems to work. Very annoying.

I usually disconnect and reconnect the usb plug and it fixes it every time...
My G29 and G25(not used anymore) both do (did) that.

My G29 was seen as a gamepad in Dirt, here is how I fixed it. This may not work for some or anyone, but it did the trick for me.

Delete the Dirt rally profile in the logitech software. Launch Dirt, Enforce the standard profile (In the logitech software). Right click on the wheel and uncheck and recheck the allowing game to recenter the wheel. This removes the enforced softlock at 90 degrees (it did for me)

Now I'm able to enjoy Dirt Rally on my PC with wheel, shifter and clutch

The Logitech G29 is not recognized by the game. It is correctly plugged, and the drivers are updated. The steering wheel works properly with other games like Project Cars. However, Dirt Rally doesn’t recognize it, the steering wheel buttons don't work on the main menu and at the option “Choose Preset” of the section “Controls” do not appear the steering wheel, at it only appear the keyboard and the Xbox 360 Controller that I have but not the Logitech G29.

Thank you

I have a G920. Firstly, its not a newer version of the g29, it's just the pc/microsoft equiv of the G29 which is a PC/Sony version.

Dirt Rally appearsto forget my G920 bindings at times and even sems to corrupt my saved binging prefs and settings. Why, I don't know, I've just accepted it as part of pc gaming.

When you say it's not recognising your wheel, can you steer with it in game?

Have you tried remapping the buttons, pedals etc in Advanced Setup (I think thats where those settings are from memory). I seem to have to remap regularly.

No, I can’t steer with it in game.

I have tried with Assetto Corsa and neither Assetto Corsa nor Dirt Rally recognize my G29, at the in game control settings don’t appear my wheel.
Only Project Cars recognize the Logitech G29. I can play it without problem.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Logitech Gaming Software, it didn’t work.
I think it could be a LGS configuration, some problem with the drivers or some incompatibility with Windows 10.

g920 isnt newer version of g29. its the same but g920 is for xbox ang g29 fo playstation

Ah sorry I didn't know about the 920 being xbox version of 29.

Anyways I use Windows 10 and the same software and it works fine so I doubt it's because of Windows 10 or anything. I do as well have to remap my keys on ocasion as Poppa said, but that is rare and has only happened once to me so far in 12 hours of play.

I had same problem with my G920.
If your G29 doesn't work in any Steam games, but it's definitely working under Windows / other gaming clients outside of Steam, then it's likely to be a setting in Steam Big Picture mode under controller settings. You need to uncheck one of the boxes (can't remember which one) and then restart your game.

Well, i got the G920 too but i can play all other steam games except DiRT Rally. The wheel doesn't appear at the "choose preset" section.
