Is private match racing available?

I did some searching through here trying to find a recent thread, but nothing from this year.

The game is free to try until this weekend, and we've heard good things about the DiRT franchise. But we'll want to be able to setup a private lobby and race as friends. Not required to join a public match with people we don't know.

Is that in the game?

Multiplayer in Dirt Rally is only available through Rallycross.

If you are looking for multiplayer you might look into other series.
As far as I see, there isn't an option for private lobby other than making a room appear as in "closed session". Perhaps your friends could search your name and play?

That's what I'm trying to verify before we all spend time downloading it. We are looking for a fun race game to play, but not where you just drive around a track in a circle. More rally race than anything. But Don't want to play with randoms.

Can anyone verify you can create a closed session and join via name?

Again, Dirt Rally is pretty much "pure rally" racing. The game is mostly focused on single player time attack, long or short sprint.
Even though the game offers Rally, Pikespeak, Rallycross, the only mode that is available for multiplayer is Rallycross (track based rally race). This game also focuses on simulation more than the arcade style. I'd say look for Dirt3 or wait for Dirt4 if you want rally like game

Better yet, you could even play The Crew, that seems to fit better for you needs.. At least, Dirt Rally isn't your best bet.

Yes it's avaiable, tho you can only play in RallyCross mode and that only has 3 country's, with each having 2 tracks if i'm right.
If you want MP Rally fun, Dirt 3 is the option.
Keys are avaiable for 1$ for that one

sorry, never meant to insult him... it's just, if he wanted to drive freely with friends, I was thinking The Crew might be a good choice. Of course, if he wanted sprint race, then that's different case.

and Rallycross haves only 4 tracks ! This is bad..
