Xbox Controller Vs. Steering Wheel.
I am REALLY wanting to buy this game, but, I REALLY don't want to spend a♥♥♥♥♥load of money on a steering wheel. I do however, have an Xbox 360 Controller. My thing is, I've ALWAYS loved racing games, but, never have tried them with a Steering Wheel. The only thing I really worry with, is if this will take away a lot from the experience. I would LOOOVE to use a steering wheel as it just looks soooo damn fun, but, it seems you'll be paying upwards of $70-$100 for what looks like an entry level or a halfway decent wheel.

What are y'alls opinion's? Are there any wheels out there (with gas/brake pedal) that ain't that expensive? Or should I be perfectly fine with a Xbox controller.

Thanks!

Edit: I made a comment, read it m8's.

Wheel is better, but Xbox controller works just fine.

Get the T150 Thrustmaster. Best bang for the buck. Good wheel and is under $200. It does come with pedals but the wheel is also compatible with a lot of the good pedal systems out there so you wouldn't be confined to those pedals if you wanted to experiment down the road.
From what I heard it is belt driven and it does have very good feedback.

There is a ps4 wheel for $99 but it's a bungey system and it will dissapoint you.

Yep, T150 or used G27 is as low as I'd go, imho.

I can only talk for myself here, but the investment in a wheel was the best thing I did; it´s a huge step up in terms of playability and outright fun. At first I bought a Thrustmaster T100 from the official Thrustmaster Store, they sell Wheels there that were sent back from customers for half the price; but with the same guarantee as a full-priced product. Bad thing about the T100 is that it only has 270 degrees of wheel rotation; but it´s still superior to a gamepad in every way. So I went up a little and bought a T300 some time later.
Or you could look for a used Logitech Driving Force GT; it has 900 degrees of rotation and is still a great wheel. Here in Germany I often see them for 50-60 Euros used on Ebay.

I´m normally not into Racing-Sims, or Racing Games in general, anymore. So I only bought the wheel for Dirt Rally and Richard Burns Rally; and for Dirt 4 in the future (depending on how it ultimately turns out as a DR-Successor). But even if it were only for DR, I would still consider it to be absolutely worth it.

One of the regulars in top 10, even top 5, drives with a controller. So it's definitely possible to drive fast with it.

I have the Thrustmaster TMX wheel and pedals. Cost $200 and was worth every penny. I even ended up building a rig for it with a seat out of a WRX:steamhappy:. Tried playing Dirt Rally with Xbox controller and just not the same. So much more immersive with the wheel and the control is by far way better. Stop thinking about it and buy one now!

Fact: a decent wheel is worth the money. I bought my G25 a decade ago, and I'm still immensely enjoying it today. Now if you just can't spend the money on a wheel, then you don't get a wheel. That is life. Make the most of what you got.

Dirt Rally has great controller support. I've spent over 300h playing with a DS4 and enjoyed it very much.

Got a wheel a few months ago and it's even better. I'd recommend getting one if you enjoy racing games. I bought a Thrustmaster T150, but a used g27 or a DF GT should be good too.

I don't have a lot of hours recorded for now, also I am not a big fan (actually was not, because this game changes everything) of racing games so, like you, I didn't want to buy a very expansive steering wheel.

The xbox 360 controller is fine, I really enjoyed the game with it. And more important, I had the feeling that I lose because of my lack of skill and not because of the playing conditions.

Totally agree with that, better nothing than a crap. Also, may I advise you the steam controller as a gyro steering wheel. It took me an hour to set correctly for my needs, but then, wahoow.

Can Confirm: With the controller is actually not that bad. Only played for two hours though. Only problem I am having is I want to keep the throttle pressed all the way down the whole time luul. That's one of the main things I needa work on. And my braking, it eh.

Thanks for all the comments though everyone!

You can have fun with a (used) Driving Force GT, T100, T150 as well; better than with a controller in any case.

What's wrong with the G25? :)

I tried both the XBox 360 and XBox One controllers. It seems the lighter triggers on the XBox One controller makes modulating throttle and brake easier. It's also less tiring.
