Sound System Initialization Failed
"Sound system initialization failed. Please run dxredist from the game library. If the problem persists, please try updating the audio driver of your sound card as well."

Everything is updated, I got this issue since the latest update. Tho where is the dxredist at? Can't find it. Everything is fine and up to date on my PC.

On a Windows machine, the redistributables are located at this location:

Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Deathtrap\_CommonRedist

Please try verifying the game cache via steam 1-2 times and see if it helps.
Nevertheless, we are looking into this issue, thanks for the feedback!

Same here. The game was fine, then the patch knocked out the sound. Validation didnt help.

We are investigating the issue. Thanks for all the feedback guys! We hope we can replicate the problem soon, as it is working for me, for example.

Just tested the game using realtek audio and drivers on Win7 x64. It is working for me.

Folks might also want to make sure their VGA drivers are updated, most include a sound driver that may be interfering with the audio.

It's also happening to me with a Soundblaster card, so it's not just Realtek and onboard cards. I also have Win 7 x64. It's the first time in a modern game i have this problem, and i'm playing games since...too much time :S

Now, 2 days without a solution and answer more than "we are still looking into this" while in middle of a sale... Maybe it's better to just refund this. I will try to test some things first, though.

Edit: I have seen the patches come every few months or so and that there are same reports for exact same issues with audio since at least May 2013 with your game engines (it seems that the "no sound" or sound cutting and other issues in Van Helsing was a frequent problem) So that's not a problem with us, guys, even more if the same people who was playing this until the patch on the 4th of May had sound before the patch.

I tried a lot of things now, i verified cache (no reason because this is my first install but, oh well), i manually installed from _CommonRedist and InstallUtils folders, i have restarted Steam and my system a few times, i have messed with Registry to look after the game options (really, options written to the Registry but no simple file for that?), i have tried both 32 and 64 bit exes (from Steam and manually outside Steam), i have verified my sound drivers just in case (no reason to do this unless i had drivers from more than a year ago) and also my graphic drivers (no reason also, but just in case), i have searched for log files but there are no log files for the game (really? without info output from the game, we are all guessing what's the problem)...

I have tried to change the Directx version the game uses (you have an option for that in the registry) and tried with DX9 and 11, just in case (with DX11, game crashes on exit, but the rest remains the same) It happens the same if i use the Force32bit option.

I also has tested inside game to see if the problem was just with main menu, with videos or with gameplay. It's universal, no sound at all.

I hope this get solved ASAP but, from someone who just bought the game and wants to play, well, i see little options here, sadly. I will wait a little (maybe until tomorrow? there is little reason to wait much more) to see if a patch or an official answer appears. No reason to keep a game in this state.

Thank you

forgot to say, not working using lastest nvidia driver, i tryed to remove and disable Nvidia high definition audio ( needed when using HDMI but im using standard VGA connector ), but game still fail to detect sound. i tryed upgrading Realtek driver ( directly with Realtek not the one provided by the motherboard ) its upgrading succesfully but the game ... still no sound' while everything else work.

so maybe to help finding the problem here is the system specification:
Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 X64
Asus P9X79 Pro
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3930K CPU @ 3.20GHz, 3201 MHz, 6 Cores, 12 Threads
EVGA GeForce GTX 690
32 GB DDR3-2133
Dual SSD:
- Corsair Force GT 180GB ( C: )
- Kingston HyperX 240GB SH103S3/240G

program that might affect sound:
- Audials 2016 = disabled the capturing driver, nothing changed
- VBCABLE, The Virtual Audio Cable = removed, nothing changed
- Open AL = removed, nothing changed
