How do I fix network timing out?

A friend and I can join co=op and play for a while, but then a message comes up saying network timed oput and he is disconnected. We are playing in the same house on 2 different computers. Mine is dirrectly connected to the router and he is wi-fi connected. If you go into talking ports please be specifice on the details of doing the process. Running windows 8.1 on both machines and have excluded Death trap from the firewqall and defender also the save game folder and steam folder.

I hope this the information you need as the print is really small even using a magnifing glass. My cable provider is comcast ans I have no television with the connection, just internet service.

Just bought a 25ft. cable and solved my problem. No drops now, but still need a solution for my laptop doing this.
