Custom Maps: XP, Gold, Research Points
Hello,
not having played Deathtrap in Early Access I have a little question: I just downloaded and completed a Custom Map from the Steam Workshop. Is it intended that I got no gold, no experience, no research points after completing it?

Thx in advance!

Just thinking out loud: If Neocore were to add restrictions to the amount of initial essence for custom maps, then it wouldn't be possible to build cheat maps, would it? Maybe tie the amount of initial essence to the average wave so it gets set automatically instead of being set in the editor. That would make it possible to enable gold, item and xp gains for custom maps.

I think it artificially lowers the fun you have in the "endgame". What do you do if you completed every map in the campaign? There are not that many. From this on, you farm them again. And again. On higher tiers. And again in Endless Mode. If custom maps gave some kind of reward, you could just download new maps you never played. Neocore could even publish a "Map of the Week" made by themselves. No reward at all in custom maps = game gets boring fast for a big majority of players.

Having an MMO background, I know people who don't find it boring doing the same group dungeons over and over, and the same daily quests over and over again, but the older I get, the less this is my definition of fun.

I assume the reason for this has to do with the ranking system/leaderboards as It would be easy to cheat your way to the top by playing an exp map. But for those of us who could care less about our rank this is a major disappointment. I was literally about to buy this game until I read this thread. I feel like this choice destroys any hopes this game had of a thriving workshop community. I love making custom maps/mods(not necessarily exp maps) but to get no benefit from playing them seems like a major waste, and I myself would not bother putting time and effort into making a fun challenging (rewarding?) map when its pointless to play it.

How about a choice when making a character to have it ranked or non-ranked, a simple check-box or something. So non-ranked characters could play and enjoy custom maps, but wont be included in the ranking system, then hosts could set restriction to allow or disallow non-ranked characters, if a non-ranked character joins, the game session will not be included in the leaderboards or ranks.

This game looks so good, but I don't see anyone making fun maps when the characters wont be able to benefit at all when playing them. Please consider making a change to this system. Thanks

Wouldn't limiting the starting essence make xp maps impossible (or at least impractical)?

A simple but nearly perfect solution, IMO.
